Default 88 944 na engine

Hello, my timing belt has gone on me >.< my engine vibrates like crazy before it broke. Instead of getting the head and all that done again I am looking for a new engine. My question is am I best going with another 2.5 88 engine or is it possible to get any of the later years with no extra work

Thank you

Any of the NA 8v engines will work. Even the 2.7L will run on the 2.5 electricals. I don't think you'll notice any difference in power, and the 83-87 will run on regular gas.

Sounds like your balance shafts were out of whack before your moment of failure.

I have had the car since September, my dad was saying we might have put one of the balance shaft idlers in upside down if that would make the diffrence

I think it was more the oil from the seals but that wouldn't help either
I'm thinking of if I get the head machined and all that fun stuff again leave the balance belt off turn it over and see how it runs. If I remember right it's over 3k rpm when the balance shaft helps? I may be wrong though

The 88 engine has the only year high compression engine I believe its 10.2:1 instead of 9.5:1. I am not sure about the Canadian models. The DME has a different part number also. If its me, I would do the head again with the help of someone who knows what they are doing especially with the balance shaft belt/pulleys.

I don't see how anything balance belt related can affect timing belt breakage other than the BS belt breaking and jamming pieces into the timing belt, which I have seen a few times.

I had something similar happen, and I had to put a new engine in my 86. The donor motor came from an 87 924s. a few very minor changes to make and it fit right in. Whichever way you go, as long as you scour rennlist and ask questions, you'll be fine.

Good luck, bro. . .keep us posted.
