I have ALL the receipts for the 1986 951 going back to the original purchase in October of 1985.
I COULD go add up all the expenditures since October 1985 until today and post that up. Then we would all know what it costs to buy a Porsche 944 and what it took to keep it up and going for 26 years and 91,000 miles. I bet someone has already done that here. I HOPE I never see that thread. And I am almost guaranteed NOT to add all that folder up. I am not sure anybody really wants to know that badly !
If I go and turn my 951 into a dedicated racing car now, then the total spent since Day 1 and through getting it up in the GT classes will be in the $100,000 range. EGAD - I wish I had not said it !!!

I should crest about $10k once this current project is done. There will be more. Lots more. It's fine with me though, I really don't care for modern cars... I like my '80's sports cars

$25k for the car
$3K on stereo
$1200 fixing and replacing DME
$1000 on new Mich PS3 tyres
$600 on replacing water pump and servicing
$500ish in little bits and pieces
Still need to get the front undertray, refurbish my Fuch's, and get a minor respray to remove stone chips.
I could then spend some serious money on suspension and motor, but nothing from here is urgent, and the car drives beautifully. Personally I would rather do a ground up rebuild on this car than spend money on an old 911. I don't really like the boxter or cayman and doubt I could ever afford a GT3/GT2 RS or the new 918 etc, so I think my 952 may be my first and last Porsche, but who knows, wouldn't mind a NA to go with it lol.
It is the greatest car I have ever owned, and I doubt I will never sell it and IMO it's a car Porsche got everything right on(for me), despite what the purists may think. Worth every cent

I'm new to the list and I haven't owned the car for very long, but I paid $1500 for it with 100k on the clock.
Mechanically it is in good order, except for some creative wiring by the PO which I am currently sorting out. Interior is fair to good, except for the dash and some minor issues here and there.
The exterior, well that's another story. It needs a complete paint job (it's not horrendous enough to leave it parked though), but there are no dents or rust.
I guess I have about $2500 into it already.
BTW, this is the most enjoyable vehicle I have owned (which includes Spitfire's, TR-6's, Camaro's and Mustang's). I had just finished building a Sportster Cafe Racer and my wife was wondering what the next project would be. Never figured it would be a Porsche and she's enjoying it as well.

I got it dec last year. Not cheap, I know but it is Aus delivered, full history, etc, and I didn't want to spend 6 months looking for one at the right price. It is also pretty much stock, which I wanted. Was the guards red/black interior combo I was after and came with original fuchs. It had also just had heads done by mechanics I trust. I have only seen one since, that would have been a better buy(on paper) and that was in darwin and more expensive again (32k)

Bought my 86 951 for $500 in August of 06.
Body Work - 1500
HVAC Switch Module - 125
New Tire - 150
Fuel Pump and Labor - 420
Alternator and Labor - 430
DME and Diagnosis - 820
Vac Lines and Misc Gaskets - 250
Cycling Valve - 50
X Relay - 12
Timing/Balance Belt, Rollers, Front Engine Seals and Water Pump - 725
PS Rack and Pump Rebuilt - 250
Fix Broken Water Pump Bolt - 150
Boot Cover - 50
Fuel Pressure Regulator - 100
Diagnose Idle Problems (Shop Labor) - 265 and counting
So far just under 6k invested. If I get the rough idle figured out, I should be good until the clutch goes out or the engine needs to be rebuilt.
To date it has cost me about $0.65 per mile not counting gas of oil changes.
I estimate I could sell it for about 4,500.
I think I saw an estimate of maintenance on these cars should average about 3K per year. That puts me ahead of the curve.

Mine was $13,000 and took about 6 months to find. UK import though. not much history except the PO has done alot to the car as in fix this fix that. there's a whole website about it which i always use when upgrading things on my car to see what's been done and what hasn't.
recovering the seats and dashboard around $1200
new front tyres $500
sparkplugs/wires $200
hoses/vaccum hoses $200
turbo/injectors/eBoost 2/FMIC $3500
and alot of time cleaning this and that. and theres other stuff like filters ect i cannot remember.

Why do you have a 993 listed in the watercoolers? I want to click it, but at the same time... I do not. What a horrible poll!
