Default Door closed; both handles broken. Help!

Yeah, that's right - BOTH handles are broken. The door is latched closed, but not completely (if that even helps my chances of getting it open). So.... what do I do? Cut the door off?

Are you trying to get into the car ? try climb in the rear hatch then take the handles apart from the inside?

Get inside the car... undo as much of the door panel as possible... reach down inside and pull the cable and pop open the car door, replace/fix handles then your good to go.

I had to do this on my passenger door, the locking mechanism got stuck and passenger out side handle was broken and inside handle couldn't open it due to how badly stuck it was... couldn't open the door at all, had to take off the panel mostly at the latch side and reach in there to pry it open. Once I got it open I installed a new latch and outside handle.

Have you tried pushing in on the door while trying the outer handle? If they're sprung and not actually broken It might be enough to get one open. My latches are real tight and if I unload the latch that way, they open easily. Good Luck.

Oh I know for sure it's broken. I pulled the handle trigger slowly and heard it *SNAP!!!!!* and so the result is now a floppy, loose, useless trigger.

So you can't unlock it and open from the inside?

sounds like a viagra commercial !

If you find that pulling on the cable inside does not work....search on my name and you'll find a thread from about 3 years ago...I think it was called "my door is F)I#$ing broken"

Someone told me the 'secret' to getting the door unstuck....and it worked !

Did I mention how it was hanging lifelessly and every-so-often inappropriately moving on its own?

Thanks for the info, I'll look it up eventually and see if it helps!

The early 944's did not have a plate in the upper rear corner to prevent using a Slim Jim. I used to get into my 83 all the time because I broke so many door handles. Once I bought a 951 I couldn't do it anymore.

Thanks for the correction.

The inside door handle / release is also broken? I didn't know the inside ones ever break! Well you can take apart the inside handle easily and then grab the cable and tug on it manually, which will open the door.

I have had the cable break before - this might be your problem too, if your inside handle does not function. In this case, with a broken outside handle as well, you're in deep pewp.

You said the door is only halfway clicked shut. Any way you can get to the outer door handle phillips screw with a screwdriver, unscrew it, and remove the outer handle so you can pop the door latch with your finger?

Beyond that... if you can't get the door panel off, you'll need to cut a hole in it so you can reach inside and work the latch manually. FUN FUN!

Cutting those door panels is not even an option. I'd rather grab a hole saw and go from the outside. I would have an easier time finding a replacement 944 door than a pristine champagne 968 door panel.

marc

from what I recall from a few years back, if you are inside the car, there is an edge modling that protects the ends of the exterior and interior steel...a lip inside the door.

If you pry that back (if you're gentle and use a small pry bar with a rag as pading you can put it back when done with minimal to no damage)...you will be able to see the latch mechanism where it latches from the door to the piece on the B pillar.

If you get a think screwdriver you can pop the part that keeps the door from opening and wham...door opened.

you can get the door card off with the door closed but it will sustain some minor damage along the bottom edge.....something I would not do if I had your door cards.
