I bet you even have driving gloves... did you have them on (with your aviator glasses of course) while speking to the mechanic about how he was to lift and proceed to work on your car?

If not, salted elitist fail for you sir..

i think you know the answer to this rhetorical question... of course i did! i never pay more than 7 dollars for a pair though. otherwise you're getting hosed.

and you have to wear them inside while speaking to the help. that way if your eyes meet, no one will notice and you won't have to knock them back down a notch.

Again, find a shop and technician that takes pride in their work. Working on Porsche cars is a labor of love...it's the quickest career choice to go broke. It's not money that motivates good techs.

this is key and why its so hard to find good ones without those in the know. i think ive since found a good shop. i went to them after the debacle. although i didn't have the work done there, because i did it myself, i could tell it was an entirely different atmosphere for the better. they aren't specialists per se but they can definitely handle the jobs im too lazy to do that doesn't take a specialist, just someone who gives a sh#*.

Well if it does go you can always get fix by your friendly neighbourhood mechanic not some white glove technician.

Being a retire Tech Rep I am going to give you the view point from a different angle. You said you took your car to a German speciality shop. They lift cars all day everyday and make a living from it. After all the wheels aren't attached to the "JACK" lift points, are they? They probably figure 99% of the car owners don't have a clue about how to work on a car or else THEY wouldn't be the ones performing the work. Can you begin to imagine just how insulting YOU were by telling them how to do their job, they are German car specialist! Their cussing loud enough for the customers in the lobby reading books was unsatisfactory too be sure. Hope no kids were there to hear this.
The professional thing for them to have done after you told them how to lift your car would have been to put it on the ground in the parking lot and told you to have a nice day.
Just a different view point.

i appreciate you chiming in, always good to hear the other side. i definitely understand how i might have looked, no matter how nice i was being, im still just the customer who has come to rely on the expertise of a professional and therefore must let them do their job. I also understand there are people at the desk for a reason... they handle the customers while the mechanics can do what they do best.

that being said, i left them to do their job and only intervened when they were potentially damaging my car. i assume you would stop a mechanic from doing something you know is wrong... at that point, they would understand that im not just another customer, im aware of something they're obviously not aware of(real locations for lifting the car) and move on. its called pride issues... i believe the main issue here though was how they reacted to learning something new... within ear shot...

if we can agree that i stopped them from damaging my rocker panels in a polite way, then we are on the same page. after intervening, they were so irate and unpleasant, i didn't think my car was in the best possible care... Besides, what recourse might i have had if they had damaged my rocker panels and i knew better but didn't say anything before it was too late?

What's the name of this place so we can all be sure to avoid it?

Rip It- customer service entails biting your tongue in order to please the customer. What if had said nothing and they damaged the car? What's worse, the tech feeling 'insulted,' or the car being damaged?
