Post Aluminum Sunroof Gears

Does anyone know of a supplier for aluminum sunroof gears? I've recently replaced my plastic gears and the new ones lasted about 3 months.

Yes I know that means I didn't put them in correctly, but I'd prefer to just get aluminum ones to replace them.

Putting in alumi gears with only rin the chance of cracking the housing or buring out the motor.

The only way I know of the strip the gears is

1) install the lift pins incorrectly in the first place.
2) When releasing the roof for removal. there is no electronic stop to tell the motor to stop releasing the roof.
"Just keep an eye on it".

oh I suppose there is one other way to do this. that is if one of the micro switches fail on the SR motor and allows it to move beyond the stops. <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />

I haven't seen an ad for them in a few years, I think they were discontinued.

It's kind of a small market.

You probably need to adjust the slipper clutch..

It's right on the motor on the same bolt that the big 21mm nut is on,..kind of

Anyway, you need to adjust the 2 much smaller nuts until it takes about 7 lb/ft of torque to turn that big 21mm nut..

Might want to check that the micro switches are adjusted correcly so that they stop the motor before it has to use the clutch. Even with the torque set correctly, it can slowly damage the gears if the stop position is set incorrectly.
