well you guys got to talking about the heater thing and i remember working on my back in the snow and freezing my nips off in an unheated garage and two years ago i got a 60000 btu reddy heater for $200 from home depot. well worth the $200! it works on kerosine, diesel, jp8, and one other fuel i believe. i just use kerosine and it works fantastic:

Great idea - I could even use that in my warehouse at work for some of the larger car projects.

Also need to replace the POS JVC stereo in this car. ANy recommendations for an easy install with IPOD plug in?

Check out Crutchfield.com. I just bought a nice Clarion for $69 with the front iPod jack. I'll take a picture tomorrow. It really looks nice in the dash. I was surprisingly impressed! I'm usually disappointed with aftermarket fit and finish. Crutchfield also has that thing where you put in your year/make/model and the website tells you what fits. They are pretty damn good with service too!

P.S. - The installation was so easy too. I was all prepared for this major job; had all my tools laid out. The thing just slipped in. It was almost a disappointment.....almost

i'll try to make it to a few GTGs this year so you can hear this beast.... the guy who built my subwoofer into my right rear quarter is a genius..... it's turning into hundreds of hours of endless enjoyment.... Rick deserves much praise and all your business. seriously. you'll love me after if you like the idea of 1,200 hundred extra sq. feet of cargo space above your seat deletes....

Rick is located 2 blocks from the Hard Rock Casino (where Anna Nicole Smith passed)....

if you scroll down a bit, you can see it on my project thread. not necessarily for everyone, but the sound is impressive.

I priced the reupholstery from Classic 9 - $1500. A little steep for me. I have a local guy to check with first. Ordered my struts. Gotta check into tires next. After that will be to illuminate the dash at night and replace all the buttons.

It is pricey for sure, but is high quality. On the flip side, I have a buddy that does custom upholstery for private jets that is doing my interior. My car came with the base "Porsche Script" interior, I am having it recovered in vinyl with some personal touches. No piping, all french seams, black vinyl, red stitching. The same treatment is being done on the dash and the e-brake and steering wheel will be recovered in leather. My cost... materials... and Im giving him a Digital SLR. I have given alot of stuff to him for our other hobby (saltwater aquariums) in the past though and he's basically repaying the favor.

I may have missed it, but are you going to do a custom interior or just replace the parts that are beat up? If you can find some 944s at a junkyard you can probably get some good interior parts. The PO of my car redid the interior with other parts from cars. He was able to find parts that were in really good condition.

I've always been partial to Pioneer head units. Mine has a Sony in it right now and its okay.

I'm starting to really delve into the research end of all this, junkyards etc and pricing out replacement parts. The car's in good shape, ,but I'm **** about things, like rips in my driver's seat. I like Pioneer as well. I just don't want headache switching it. In the past, I've been on the crap end of every stereo installation I've ever done!

Also, the antilock light is on the dash and have no idea where to start for that.

I am partial to Blaupunkt (always have been since my custom installer days). So I went the natural route and upgraded to a modern Blaupunkt headunit in my 951...

Just ordered the struts and center console armrest. Let the fun begin.

Never realized leather upholstery was so expensive. Even in leathermate it's $850. Trying one more shop tomorrow and then making a decision. If I could find a tight form fitting cover, I might consider that.

Headed out for a heater this morning and then removing the driver's seat (passenger seat already out). I guess I'll first start on the rear speakers and then for the life of me, try to figure out how to test electrical stuff since a lot of the dash buttons don't work. That'll be interesting.

I have decided that if the Iggee seat cover beige is close, that I will go with those for now for $179. It's a gamble and I'm being fussy. If not, I will spend the 850 from leatherseats.com on the italian leather and completely reupholster the seat. The plus to that is if I have any difficulties there's an upholstery guy 8 miles away. I'd love to be satisfied for the 179 but I'm pretty **** about the appearance of this car.

Be ready - gonna have lots of questions as I get busy on this.

If you dont mind Vinyl, you can basically get the whole interior kit form a place on eBay (I dont know the quality for any personal experience) for around $450 for front and rears. Also, if you have dash cracks, they will sell you extra material to match the seats

FYI buy one with the thermostat. I wish I had bought mine with one.
I made the same mistake but was able to buy a separate thermostat for not too much. It's interesting that the new one posted here can use multiple fuels. I'm curious if I might be able to substitute home heating oil for kerosene since it is about a dollar a gallon cheaper...
