Post I need some head

head work that is... I've got the head out of the car and pulled the valve springs off. Every one of my exhaust valves had loose seals and are gunked up with oil deposits.

That means its time for me to send the head out to get some work done. (I'm not sure exactly what I'll be doing, but my step-dad is a mechanic and can describe it more technical terms.) Does anyone know of any places around Bucks county, PA that will do great work?

Can I do anything to add more power (reliably!!!) while I'm getting this work done?

Check out www.huntleyracing.com or www.lindseyracing.com they each have different stages of cylinder head work that will add power, and get whatcha need done.

Oh dear god.. I just looked at the prices.

I'll be going local with my head, I can't afford to get extra power out of it. Does anyone know of any local places to get the work done?

Has anyone worked with Holbert's Porsche for head work, or Apcar Porsche?

Semi-local to you is Atlantic Enterprises in Pitman, NJ here in South Jersey. 856-589-5577. I've heard all positive things about their work. I've spoken to the main guy there and he seems cool enough. I'm bringing him my head and block in July when I'm rebuilding.

Nick I would check with Chris White I have not done any business with him but he seems to know a lot about these cars and isn't to far away. http://home.earthlink.net/~enhancement944/

Just make sure you get a 3 angle valve job (60,45,30 I beleive) as it will go a long way in the performance for little $$$ (like 10% better flow). Some powerusers like Danno use 5 and even 7 angle heads, but I've read/heard from certain 911 people that 5 angle valve jobs, though they may flow incrimentally better do not provide enough interference on the 45 deg. contact and won't seal long term as well as a 3 angle.

3 angle valves are almost standard these days, but worth asking about. That and make sure the place comes recommended by at least a few gearheads you trust. My last stock 3 angle head rebuild with tax was just under $300 at the local Porsche head rebuilder which included milling the headgasket surface. That's almost worth shipping it to him, . . . if you only spoke Japanese, his english is not so good.

I have a second 951 that I use for testing. When I purchased it, it had a small leak in #4. I have a local shop (lots of racing rebuild in the short track circuits) do the head. He vatted the head, milled it true, did a preasure check, did a three angle valve cut, replaced the seals (I supplied them from the head gasket set)for $155. It doesn't have to cost a lot if you do a standard valve job with a good shop.

And I also paid a shop over $1,000 to do a PP, O ring, new springs, 7 angle head job...you choice. Both worked for there intended purpose.

I took my head to a local Chevy hot rod shop. Disassembled, hot tanked, 3 angle, new guides and seals (I supplied them), reassmbled and out the door for $125.

Just find a local place with a good rep with machiene work and you should be in like Flynn.

A head is a head, nothing special here.
