would be a nice car to restore. it looks mostly complete and fairly solid and with some time and effort, would be a nice all around car.

That's not junk at all. Well, it could have some major mechanical issues and then I guess it would be junk. But it seems like a very nice example to start with for some restoring.

good candidate for track use, but the previously posted 5K+ price is a little steep for a tip in this condition... but I could be wrong..

OK, maybe the hood, roof, and hatch are OK, but virtually every other panel needs work....

You are right.. it is a 6speed... even then it is a little pricey for the condition IMHO.. but then I stuck to my $3300 price cap when looking for a 951... and have been hapy with it since, as I feel I got the BEST $3300 951 out there...
There seems to have been a bunch of sadly maintained 968s for sale lately... I have lost track, but did remember the craptastic body on this one, down to the missing drivers door handle!

I'm afraid these types of deals will be more and more common. Especially in areas that have emissions testing that doesn't have a grandfathering clause. Lots of nice cars around for sale that are not worth fixing these days.
From a dollar perspective, it doesn't make much sense to spend $10K to fix a car you spent $5k on for it to be worth $10k. Before you argue what a 968 can fetch, what will one with little or no history fetch? and if you buy it and have it professionally serviced at a Porsche authorized centre, you can then predict to spend more than $10k to bring it back to excellent condition just so you can have paperwork to try and get $10k plus.
Unfortunately you can spend 10-20K on these cars pretty easily. Yes you can do this yourself if you have reasonable skills/tools/time/place and save some serious coin, but that will only increase its value to a certain point. (would you trust a PO that he did a good job on his own timing belt no matter how recent?) Only an enthusiast should purchase a car like this. Someone that is not as interested in the costs, but more interested in the adventure of owning a classic sports car that they have always wanted.
Me. I don't have time for another "adventure" car, so a car like this for me would spell big $ to have someone prep the car for me.
I do see potential though, especially if someone has the right skills!

I went there expecting something that could be made better...but honestly, that car needs almost every panel replaced or repaired. The interior sucks, and i bet the dash is bubbled and cracked all over.
It's worth more as an engine and transaxle.

Unless 968's double in price over the next few years, I doubt that car will ever see the road again. Seems like the owner realizes that so he is advertising it as a great track car. It is just not worth fixing with the high price of 968 parts. I just hope it gets turned into a track car to give it a little more life.

I hate seeing so many trashed 968's. There weren't all that many to start with so the more that get ruined the more the price of a good one will go up. And I don't know about you guys but I like that 944's/968's aren't that expensive and I'd hate to see them gain too much value. That may sound weird but I think the low price is good for these cars cause it makes them less serious and more obtainable.

we've seen 968s with near perfect paint and bodies sell for about $ 9,000....
this will cost how many $ 1000's to get the issues resolved, body prepped and a crass respray ?
