Finally powder coated my calipers
Well.. I got one coated. The factory clear is a bitch to get off... taking me about 2 hours. I elected not to dissasemble them, since they do not need to be rebuilt. Some clever masking with foil and I was all set.
Here are the results.

All for now. Bed time.

Nice caliper holder-upper :-) Perry, if you could I'd be interested in a step by step as I would really like to do this to my '89 soon!

I'll post a step by step tomorrow. It's not hard if you get the concept of powder coating.
[EDIT] Actually, I will take pics on the next one and do the step by step with that. Should be later this week.

That's really nice of you! I have wanted to do this for a while but haven't had the time or know-how... really looking forward to doing it with someone steering me in the right direction.
OH... GO TO BED!!!!!

Even factory shop manual says not to do that. I suppose Brembo have some special manufacturing systems when they bolt up calipers together.
I just removed last weekend clearcoting from my 928 S4 calipers which iam going to install into my 951. As you said it is quite time taking task to do. It took me 2 hours / caliper. I was little bit suprised when i noticed that black color was not powder coated but anoized! I suppose i will go the same route as you do and powder coat them red. I would prefer black myself, but my son wants them red <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
Your calipers surely do look good.
You have powder coated some other parts aswell. Can you tell what kind of equipement you are using? Pics would be nice.

Yeah, I wonder what's behind all the warnings about not separating the caliper halves. A very common big-brake upgrade on the RX7-TT is to go to larger, thicker rotors. So to use a 13" 32mm wide rotor, the kits come with longer bolts to hold the halves together along with a thicker center section. Just unbolt and separate the caliper, replace the stock middle piece with the wider one from the kit and bolt the whole assembly back together with the longer bolts.
Has anyone ever disassembled their 951 brake calipers to see what the deal is with those warnings?

Trick question.... they are both bent.
The red caliper is on a bent intake valve with about 30 seconds of run time. The black is on an exhaust with 125,000 miles, and just barely dinged.
You win nothing... well.. maybe a charred peice of something.
