Post Will a 85.5+ Alternator fit a 85.0?

Subject says it all. I have a rebuilt 85.5+ alternator, will it just mount up to my 85.0?

Thanks!

Yup, but it's a higher output (115 vs 90)... if that matters to ya.

Great. They said it was 115 versus 90 at Discount Auto. It's quite the monster size...
Should do good for the 55/100 Hella's, and the Hella rally lites on front :-)

Cheers

No Mike. Wires are like pipes. If you don't enlarge them, you are screwed, unless you raise voltage or go to superconductors. Not an easy option for us.

You may get a bit more juice down there with the higher voltage, but you are still on the short and crummy end of the stick.

I know you were joking, but I'm getting 3 e-mails a day on jokes.

Regards,

Ice

Yeah, pully is different I found out last night.. Got the old one off fine, but the new one won't come off! Going to get an impact wrench on it tonight (if I can find a way to hold the fan blades).

Also the mounting bolts are different. The old one has a threaded lower mount (the one that shares with the AC) and the new one doesnt (simple, just get a longer bolt with a nut). The top is the opposite! It used to be bolt/nut but now the alternator is threaded. Ugh.

Hey Mike Green (don't you post to the GRM board too?)

You shouldn't have to hold on to the fan too tightly, the impact wrench will kind of, um, err, rattle the bolt loose.

Don't post on the GRM forum, whatever that is... sorry.

Yeah - hopefully it should be quick and painless with the impact.

If it even matters, I know that you can adapt a certain Chevrolet altenator to a 944, not sure which one, but it's worth checking into maybe. ALso, alot of times the altenator just needs rebuilt (not hard).
