Post Aurora looks like a 944

We just bought a new Aurora. I looked in motor trend's archives. The test on the 2001 Aurora says the following:

"From the side, it seems almost reminiscent of the muscular Porsche 944."

What would Freud say about that?

Take a look and tell me where the similarities are Official Aurora Site

"huh?"

I have to agree with Tom. Motor Trend was/is on crack. Not surprising, really.

The front fender right above the wheel has a tiny little bit in common, but not enough to even warrant a comparision.

My brother in law just bought one of these a few weeks ago. It is a very nice looking car...not the norm for american cars these days. It definitely has class and muscular lines. The power plant is decent, too...he has the V6...not too sure on the displacement/horsepower, but it is basically 3/4 of the cadillac northstar motor, slightly detuned IIRC. All aluminum, DOHC 24 valve, etc. I wasn't too impressed with the handling (I only drove it once and was sure to bust a turn or two) but it has a very supple ride. I would have to say I am most impressed with the way it looks. As far as looking anything at all like a 944...thats like putting a silk hat on a pig.

I used to sell this car for a living.

It has a very unique body structure, thats what gives it the smooth ride. Unibody, formed by hydraulic pressure, vibrates at under 25Hz. Very smooth ride. And the baby Northstar is very cool too. Very torqy, and a dream when it comes to maintenance.

Many times have I wished for "limp-home" mode on my Porsches. Imagine having the ability to run on only a few of your cylinders to get you home.

Oldsmobile always had good powertrains, it was the cheap/stodgy/tacky looking body-styles, and the craptacular interiors that killed them.

Sister just sold a one. Oh by the way, she put $12,000 in repairs into the thing in two years. OUCH! Ran great, when it ran.

In this pic you can see the similarity in rear fender flares:

But other than the Aurora's subtle flaring, I don't see it either.

"From the side it seems almost reminiscent of the muscular Porsche 944".

So looking at the picture, who is on crack here?

Also, isnt it nice to know we drive a muscular car? Kinda makes my testosterone level rise.

I see it... how the Aurora looks like the 944, if you look very closely.... it has four wheels a windshield, a rounded front end.....

Just joking, like the others I just see a little fender flair, and the front kinda-sorta resembles a 951.

Good luck with your new car, many years of trouble free enjoyment. Can only see some flair over the wheels that would even remotely resemble a 944. The ONLY car that resmbles a 944 is a 928 and then mostly from the front and side with the roof line. 2cts worth. Jim H

I think the Mistubishi Starion stole every single styling cue from the 951, and then just made it a little more boxy.

Don't forget the Mazda RX-7 in the 80's. It looks just like a "soft" version of the 944. And also the Nissan 300ZX, which also took some styling cues from the 944.
