yes,
i started daily driving the car on the 6th of September.....
then to the dyno tuner for a few hours to smooth out a few rough spots.
since then, daily drivng her in S. California, surfing, hitting the beaches,
and a trip to Phoenix and back.
with Doug adding a few tweaks here and there....
about 1700 miles on her since the maiden voyage.....
heading out this morning in search of gold in the Lake Elsinore gold fields with the Minelab GPX4500 detector,
as with any high strung car, she's gonna be a work in progress for as long as i'm able to drive it.

ok, congrats!
how long did it take to make into what it is now? are you happy with the result?
how do you compare it to the old car, ok its clear that this is more powerfull but you dont use all that power all the time...so how does it feel now driving it normally compared to how it felt with the 3L engine?
does it eat more fuel when driven normally? how many miles can you go with one full tank?

thanks Morghen,
Eric Hill received my car on 7Aug 2014.
received the car from him about 10 months later.
he gets an A for the car, but to be honest, he took too long to complete it.
after receiving it, the car was rough, but the foundation was solid....
there were still plenty of things to do with the brakes, suspension, etc.
Doug Bray had the car about another 3 months.
my happiness with daily driving, traveling and experimenting with the car... is about 9.5/10.
i thought AC would be possiible. but, i'm no longer a believer.
this engine is big. it makes a humungous amount of heat.
but it is nothing short of incredible from 1500-4500 rpm.
*low fuel pressure after....
i'm thinking of an identical oil cooler on the driver's side duct to match the passenger side.
i averaged between 26.7~27.2 mpg on the highway running between 1900~2200 rpm in high gear (64-74mph)....
that was in the desert heat on the trip to and from Phoenix. hoping for a slight improvement on colder driving conditions.
the Jag lost..... all he could offer was a smile with "yeah, ok.... you bad...." to be fair, he was carrying an extra 100 pounds (supermodel).
and he didn't defer to "yeah, but i got a superhotty in the car." consolation.
there have been other feeble challenges. but the 458s and F-12s rule in Malibu.
Spencer drove it before dyno tune... it was running dangerously lean and he thought the car was pretty fast...
after the tuner, the car is considerably faster, smoother through the gears, etc....
night and day from the old 3.0..... to be honest,
i like the old 3.0 a lot. it was very, very fast, and there was always this perfect harmony between the car and driver.
everyone should take their turn on a trip in a 968. the cars are sooooo good.
driving normally over 40~50 mph, there's also great deal to be said for this car with the v8....
from there, going up hills, going fast, really fast, etc.... it all gets better - quickly. and then, violently.
at this point, crusing Pacific Coast Highway, slow, normal, making adjustments,
whatever gear, whatever RPM, you can make the car do what you want it to do - instantly.
it drives like a supercar, imo.
we're down 70~90hp because of low fuel pressure with the limitations of the old pump.
we're making about 400whp in the low 4000s...
but there's so much more usable power (after about 2500 rpm) than before.
on the highway, doing a puny 2200 rpm/74mph, and you want to go super fast and pass someone...
you see an opening 1500 feet up the road......
just hit the gas and go. you're never in the wrong gear.... but,
drop it down to 5th, and the torque literaly tears a hole through the tarmac..... acceleration is - violent.
and it stays that way until a bit past 130mph where the fuel pressure begins to flatline....
in my update from this past saturday, i got into the general impressions i get just driving it.
settled in..... 14 days daily driving, short and long trips.
car is great.
about being besides oneself (while driving)....
i have to say, the first time that ever happened was with the C7 Stingray...
now i know the same feeling in my 968.
1400 miles so far, including LA to Phoenix and back (in the late-summer heat).
having had the opportunity to drive this 968 and the C7 Stingray both for extended periods,
I can say I love the v8 rendition of the 968 almost as much as the Stingray.
I give just a nod to the Stingray for it's refinement.
they're incredibly different, of course. both are a blast.... but, this version of the 968 is raw.
still, fully drivable. close to tame when you want it to be.... etc. but then.
the 968 surely lacks the decades of refinement found in the Stingray...
starting with the interior, dash, and rear hatch.
the rear hatch on my car is noisy.... sh t, the whole car is noisy.
I'm gonna try and improve some things... but, there's only so much you can do.
updating the suspension, but, running the big tires, she still tramlines like my old 968.
it's still very much a 968, imo.
driving it continues to be more work than the Vette.
the driveline is noisy.
there's a bit of clunkiness to it in a parking lot or going slow....
there's a hiccup if you're driving under say, 35mph in any gear and not accelerating.
I'm not loving that.
next up.... a few minor things. need to address some items with the body work....
upgrading the instruments will hopefully, be fun...
past couple of days - driving Sunset Blvd and Pacific Coat Highway
between Beverly Hills and Malibu with some badass cars to run with.....
including a romp around Deadman's Curve in Beverly Hills last night against another v8
smoking the tires, from one end of Sunset to the other, terrorizing the other cars, laughing our asses off.
and the Actor who played the drug king pin in Desperado in the suicide seat (of the other car)... all smiles.
i eagerly await anyone who takes her out -
and says they didn't like driving this car.

OD, where are in SoCal are you around? Come to the Pelican Parts Cars and Coffee on Oct. 17th, i want to see the car finally . I am driving 4 hours round trip, the last one i missed but it looked well worth the ride.

I'm shipping my LS swapped car out in a few months but it will be trailer only to and from the track. Need to have it retuned for 91 octane also . Always up for a run up and down the PCH in my 3.2 911 though .

i'm traveling from the LA basin to Chicago..... and on to the Boston area.
taking my time. will it be the rim of the Canyon...
then across barren Utah to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Vail Pass, and the summit of the continent....
or the Godforsaken hellhole and a thousand screaming trucks, New Mexico Police State (I-40/44) route??
you have to ask yourself 1 question: 'do i feel lucky?'
anyone want a very low mile Sachs 968 clutch ?
if you just want to meet up and drive a nice 968, admire Eric's/Dougs handiwork.....
make haste and pm.
btw,
i think i got a blown tweeter on the sound system.....

Just got an update worth posting.
Utah was stunning and the 80 MPH speed limit was noted.
Allen is midway across Wyoming right now.
Car's current nickname is Sledgehammer .
....something about 1,900 RPM is 110 MPH.
Car has seen speeds upward of 150 MPH without a care in the world.
(Yes, he's driving the car cross-country....It's a one-man cannonball run. LOL)

with the Conti 285-35-18s, at 110mph, the engine is turning at about 3300rpm.
until the gps speedo goes in, i'm just going by the tach.
btw, once i was east of Chicago driving normal speeds, and cooler air (than the month previous),
mpg increased to 28mpg.
yes, i've had the car here in the Boston area since arriving 8 days ago.
just in time to stain the deck and finish cutting up all my wood. (i'm burning my bark pile in the stove at this moment)....
Doug, it's 42F here at this hour. i noticed Rancho Guacamole was about 104 yesterday.
that's too damn hot. this fall weather is paradise.
i'm leaving Sunday night to Chicago (in the Sledgehammer),
if you or Adam would like to drive the car this weekend, please pm.

CORRECTION ON HIGHWAY MPG.
after improving my math a bit, the truth emerges.
26.8 mpg at 70mph. and about 27.2 mpg at about 65mph.....
spent a couple of weeks in Boston.
well the rule is...... daily drive AND TRANSCON THIS DAMN THING LIKE YOU STOLE IT......
well, it was 6600 miles of bliss....... but then, (on my trip to Chicago yesterday) sometime after Toledo, i got the v8 blues.
3-500 bucks everytime she's running like crap every few thousand miles ain't what i had in mind.
and no, i don't have time to take it to the shop.
car has no fewer than 5 very bad issues...
and that's not counting tidying up some of the body work in the nose.
Chicago is like a cure for being happy.
Toledo?
embarrassing we even have a sh_thole that bad in the USA.
my car didn't like it either.

Well that thing is thirsty allright..even at low speeds...and despite being a big V8 it seems its not holding up to the use/abuse as expected. Sorry to hear that.
Not trying to be an ******* or a troll, but may i turn your attention to that small engine you bashed and probably will keep doing so...the 2L
I did a weekend drive in my 1.1bar boosted & intercooled 2L turbo, it was clearly not a 6000 mile trip but it was about 4-5 hours driving. I didnt drive it like i stole it as i love this car, but i did give it the beans and keep it between 100mph and 125mph for a good two hours.
Overall i got 25.6 mpg(us).

well, my mph was factored over the state of New Jersey, Pennsylvania (a considerable amount of up and down grades/mountains) and Ohio.
should see some improvement on a trip say, from Florida to New England.
the engine is fine.
but it's not holding tune. i have an idea what the problem might be.
finding out how not to repeatt the process will be the next adventure.
