Default got the car started ... and it runs!

I looked at Van's video again, and I got my belt to where about he said it should be, or so it seems to me

So we went out and turned it over again, and the timing belt is fine, so we put the rest of little bits and vac hoses on, and got the car started

My battery is completely dead, so we are jumping it.

It starts just a little bit rough but probably because there are a few things disconnected now, but it idles fairly well.

There is a little white hazy smoke coming from around exhaust manifold area, we are thinking that its just some extra stuff that might have drizzled onto it burning off.

There was a decent ticking sound coming from the car when it first started, but that seemed to go away.

I am not getting any belt whines from any of my belts at all. So I think I got the balance shaft done alright.

I need to figure out how tight should my new A/C Delete alternator belt should be, and then I could start the car and let it run/idle.

The carbon canister is also disconnected ATM.

I need to put cooling fans back on, they are connected but not on radiator right now, and I need to secure the clamps on the plastic intake box, and oh, put the timing covers back on.

All in all, not bad!

Wasn't that a great feeling when it started?! Don't get that satisfaction when you pay a shop!

light smoke = wd40/oil/residual burning off. no biggie. hold the engine at like 4k for minute or so and it'll burn it all off.

noise = lifters repumping with oil.

good jorb!

thanks! yeah its a great feeling ... of relief! LOL

now we are trying to get t he A/C Delete backet alternator belt on, but we can't get it to stay tight

I think there is some kind of a mount underneath the alternator, maybe that is supposed to be secure prior or something

Got the fans on too, so everything appears to be ready. I need to top off the oil level too.

Should I use a 50/50 antifreeze mix or?

Thanks guys!

any idea on what to do with the alternator and the belt?

there was this "bar" thing that attached to the engine and A/C but now that the A/C is out, the hole on the bottom of the alternator is much smaller and not threaded

so, this bar needs to be removed? and the alternator just needs to be tightened really hard?

we re-tightened it about 3 times now, and every time we are done and its REALLY tight, after removing the pry-bar, if we push down on the alternator it moves down

fast guys bracket

and its down where a/c used to be

seems like that "bar" (for the lack of better word) - was the part that might have helped keep the tension?

this would probably be just like any other a/c delete bracket, my alternator keeps moving "down" and loosening the tension on the belt

lol

this is the part:

apparently its called "alternator strut" - at least by Paragon

so with A/C delete, am I still supposed to use this thing or not?

kind of fun not to have any instructions around ... search brings up nothing

yes, you use that and the end that used to go into the ac compressor goes to the lower alternator tab instead

ok then how do I attach this strut to the alternator? the hole on the alternator is MUCH smaller then on the strut itself

mine has a lot of dirt on it, going to spray some stuff and see if it breaks it loose, hope I don't need a new one

Stock alternator? It turn buckle should bolt right up... You have the alternator mounted right in the A/C delete bracket?

Congrats on the belts!
