Take a look at a motorcycle chain adjuster on the swingarm; you weld a nut to a washer that goes under the bolt into the alt, then use a screw into the nut, that screw bears on the end of the flat bar to move the bolt in a slot.

Making a slot is no fun, tho.

I can't weld and I don't know anyone who would take up a small project like this

I wish I knew someone who could make the part for me, so it looks somewhat more presentable (with a CNC) - but again, its way too small of a part ... who knows, there would probably be more people who do A/C delete on early cars interested in the idea, just because it has potential to work and be SO cheap
