Anyone ever used a tow dolly or trailer from U-haul?
I'm curious to know if anyone has ever used a tow dolly or car trailer from u-haul to transport a vehicle. If so, how well did it work. I've gone to the u-haul web site and it says that none of the equipment they have will work. Hmmm... help.

They made me rent a big dual axle trailer and a humongous truck and charged 800 bucks to tow the "S" from "Cold Iron" Kentucky to Boca Raton Florida. All I needed was another 944 to do the job...!
Ran it up onto the trailer head first, no problem.

I towed my 951, nose first, on a U-Haul trailer for 250 miles. It was rock solid until the tie downs came loose 1 mile from my destination! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />
With the even weight of the 951, it should not matter how it is loaded, but with other cars, you want the heavy end on the tounge.

Back in 1994 I used a tow bar (dolly?) to haul a 1993 Dodge Shadow. I pulled it behind a U-Haul truck. I was moving from Tallahassee, FL, to Gainesville, FL (about 300 miles).
Everything worked well except for a bonehead mistake on my part. After driving about 10 miles someone pulled up next to me and said there was smoke coming from my car. I had set the parking brake after putting the front wheels on the dolly. Obviously, I forgot to release the brake before hitting the road!

The u-haul people say the hauler is not compatible for the porsche 944 turbo. This is conflicting information. You guys are telling me that it can be done no problem?

The one I pulled with it was a 84 944. It was the car hauler (with two ramp type things where the tires go). The driving part was easy, getting the thing up there was the hard part. They should install boat winches on those things.

Used a tow dolly to haul my car when I moved to Phoenix from Cincinnati (~2100 miles). Only problem I had was the car was a Geo Metro (could've fit it in the back of the truck!) and the U-Haul van was a diesel and the car was covered with a thick film of diesel exhaust.
