Sorry for the noob questions lately, I have an MSD blaster 2 coil left over from my old turbo golf i built and i was doing some reading and found out its the same coil for 944's also.
I'm reading about some 8ohm resistor some people say you need to run (others say they've run months/years with out it with zero problems)
Is there a writeup on this explaining all the info that goes into this mod?
thanks,
Jeff

The ballast resistor is for use if you don't have a 6A or 6AL ignition as well. If you are only replacing the coil, you should use one.
I'm not sure you can expect much benefit from a msd coil upgrade by itself, unless your stock coil is not 100%.

Less likely to fry your DME with the ballast. It'll work without, just safer with.
If you are also running the 6A or 6AL ignition, you don't need the ballast.

wow, im a noob, just researched what the DME actually was... didnt realize it was the ECU. What's DME stand for?
For $20 I think i'd just install the resistor if it could possible save frying the ECU.
Is it installed between the positive wire to the coil and the coil itself i assume?
This is the unit correct? MSD p/n 8214?
