LS3 C6 Corvette vs 951 Bolt on
Driving a 951 with a Cat Delete, Boost Enhancer, 3.0 BAR FPR, and 951 MAX Chips I had issues keeping up with those pesky Corvettes, nowadays having a great set up which consists of the following: 61-1, 55# Injectors, LR MAF, 46mm Tial WG, Cat Delete, built cylinder head, 3.0 BAR FPR, 951 MAX Chips, and a few other odds and ends, it seems like base Corvettes are a problem of the past
I was headed south on the highway with no traffic to keep me entertained on my way to see some old friends when I saw a bright yellow C6 Corvette with a black stripe behind me. He got close enough to read the back of my car, down shifted and stomped on the gas. Admiring the roar of the big V8 I just let him go thinking nothing of it. Curiosity got the best of me, I really wondered how I would line up with a car of its status as a flag ship from a roll. I figured in my head that he would smoke me based on the results at the drag strip.
About 3-4 miles later I caught back up, only this time I was passing him. With clear roads ahead and no cop stops for miles!
As soon as I got in the other lane to pass him he down shifted and matted it, immediately I down shifted to 3rd gear at 60mph and floored it.
Beyond my belief i passed him a few seconds later and was putting a good amount of road between the two of us. Looking at my speedometer I decided to lift off the gas and coast to highway speeds. He slowed down a bit then stomped on the gas right next to me, with no traffic on the road I down shifted and caught back up.
We both slowed down, he signaled me to follow him off the next exit. I followed him and we BS'ed talking about the rivalry between Corvettes and Porsche 911's and the fact that he never though a little 1980's Porsche 4 cylinder Turbo would ever have a chance to keep up let alone walk away from his state of the art 6.2L. He clarified that his Corvette is powered by a stock LS3 engine.
It was wrong of us to do that on a public road but curiosity got the best of me and traffic was non existent, the conditions couldnt have been any better for such a meeting.
Next in the cross hairs is that infamous Z06

"It was wrong of us to do that on a public road but curiosity got the best of me and traffic was non existent, the conditions couldnt have been any better for such a meeting." I come from a 25 year sport bike back round and my 1997 Suzuki Bandit 1200 with 130 RWHP 0-60 in 2.3 seconds, was my ride, and any time I saw a Porsche it was on (called it the Porsche Killer, but not limited to Porsche's, did roll ons with a Lambro, a few years back and after 4 try's from 70 up to 140 he just gave me a thumbs up, a nod and a smile, till the kid in the bondo Nova pulled up and wanted to join us so I gave the kid a 1,2,3 with my free hand and he was off, the guy in the Lambro and I just sat there new we where both laughing, when the kid slowed down and looked at us I started 1,2...and he finally gave up).
some times you just have to go for it (being as safe as possible) I never drove with my ego but my head and knew what that bike could do and I never rode it to its limits or mine, so same thing will apply here for me.
I love my 85.5 944 na and was a natural cross over car for me (hard to ride any more not as much strength in my hands as I hit the big 50 this month)
Most rides we took where about the ride with friends not the destination

I recently had an opportunity to drive a '10 corvette convertible from Tampa to Miami.
My observations: Awesome power (remember I drive an 86 n/a). It was fun to put the foot into it. But for a long drive, I prefer the 944. More comfortable, and more cargo area. And in the long run easier on the wallet.
Also prefer the road feel and handling of my car.

Any desire I had to use public streets as a playground disappeared after my first track day. What seems "racy" on the street is nothing compared to what you can do on track.

Factory LS3 will do 12.26 in the quarter mile (I have an LS3 2008 Corvette). As a Corvette owner, I can tell you there are a number of owners that just don't know how to drive their cars. Mine is currently doing 10.9 in the quarter, due to long tube headers, 3600 stall converter, large cam and a 418 stroker short block.
As for the comment about the cargo space, the Verts don't have much, but the Coupe has more than the 944's.
The 944 is a blast to drive, I miss having mine on the road. I would get rid of my Corvette for the right 911, but I am still and always will be a Corvette fan.

Quarter mile is a completely different ball game where launching, gearing, traction, shift times, and low end torque make or brake your time, hands down a lightly modified LS3 c6 with long tube headers and drag radials would smoke me in a quarter mile if he is a good driver. There's no doubt that he was a good driver, its very hard to be a bad driver from a roll especially. What is your trap speed in the vette?

And non-Z06/ZR1 'vettes up here are lucky to get into the 13s. Nothing to worry about for decent 951...
