I've run a welded diff before (not a porsche.) At slow speeds its harder to turn the car (parking lot stuff) When ever you are turning at all, you are always dragging one wheel, so expect extra wear on your tires, and extra strain on your cv shafts etc. On the track, it sure did put the power down on corner exits compared to an open diff. I went through half shafts much quicker, but they were easy/cheap to do.
All in all, it works, but has several drawbacks..not the BEST way to do it.

Bad understeer. Plus the weld can break taking out the R&P. Not as good as a proper LSD box. Still can be fast at the track.

I am running a welded diff on one of my cars. My experience is that it puts a lot of strain on all the other parts, especially as a daily driver. I feel like my CV axles are going to twist and snap one day.
Also just as others have already said, it will make the car understeer in higher speed driving conditions, but oversteer in wet conditions. The handling characteristics are really downgraded after welding the diff, in my opinion.
But since I really only use the car for drifting events anyway, it is highly beneficial.

it can be done but the the differential needs to be removed from the transaxle in order to weld it. It is still a "normal" type of differential just in a bigger case and also requires removing the transmission half from to access.
