Thumbs up FR Wilk Chip

Well,

I finally got off my lazy *** today and installed the Power Prom 2 chip I received from Mr. Wilk a couple of months ago. The install was straightforward, with the most difficult part being putting the DME back behind the kick plate.

My god.

Anywho, Les and I hopped in the car... good stuff <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" /> Naturally, I don't have a dyno, but the car is mean - REALLY mean. The change in throttle response was probably the biggest surprise.

In second gear, laying into it spins the tach like mad, and the car has a distinct "squat" now when you punch it. I refuse to launch the car hard, so I can't say with any certainty how she goes off the line - but now the first upshift produces some pretty eye opening results

I know that for HP, many people have argued that chips for NAs don't do much - but I can tell you that throttle response here is a huge plus. Likewise, I know I picked up some power - especially when the car hits 4k or so and I start having to remember that I can't just hold on for a bit... the rev limiter comes up that quickly.

So, in conclusion, the car pulls much harder than before and I have to keep a closer eye on my RPMs now more than ever because the car builds up so quickly.

Thanks, Mr. Wilk

Micah, FR's chip for the NAs has always had excellent reviews in the E-Mail lists since he introduced it, way back when.

One fellow, Scott, was so impressed by it he practically quit driving his other 2 Porsches (951 and 968 cab) altogether and even considered selling them.

Enjoy!

I didn't know FR did chips for late NAs. I guess yours is an US? Is there a chip for the Euro? I'd love to try it out. I currently have a Europoroducts US-chip in my Euro. Some extra top end power maybe, but hardly noticeable.

I don't know about the Euro - you'd have to ask him. Check out: <a href="http://frwilk.com/944dme/" target="_blank">http://frwilk.com/944dme/</a>

Thumbs up

Micah,
Coincidentally, I posted something similar on the "other" forum...

<a href="http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=766309#post766309" target="_blank">http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=766309#post766309</a>

The Power Prom 2 and the Cam seem to work well together.

Does this one raise the redline?

schlag,

From what I read there are two options,

6500 RPM
7000 RPM

I opted for the latter, not sure what Micah ordered...

Bob,

Nice to meet you - I installed the wheel cam a year or so ago and was very pleased with the results.

This chip continues to amaze me with partial throttle response. When I am at, say, 25% throttle, the car just feels like it's ready to launch forward. I'm absolutely delighted with it.

The cam was a great addition as well, and for as cheap as it is, everyone with a 944NA should have one... but the Wilk Chip just puts this car in a different league as far as I'm concerned.

It sounds like you agree To Mr Wilk! <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" />

I also have an FR Wilk chip in my 84 NA and I am very pleased with it. I agree with all things posted here by Micah Jones. Definetely one of the better buys for a NA.

I'm the guy Luis mentioned, and yes, I really am that pleased with it. Unfortunately, I have developed a massive oil leak problem, so the '84 is sidelined for a bit, until I can get the time to properly fix it.

Regards,

Nice to chat here with you folks...

Actually, I was referring to a Camshaft from Web Cams in CA. Specifically, #274 grind. Not too expensive, approx $500.00 works well in conjunction with the headwork and PP2 from FR.

Bob,

Thanks for passing that on. Do you have the "wheel" throttle cam I mentioned earlier? IIRC, it's $30 or so... was a nice little add-on.

I'll have to look into that Camshaft from WC.

Good stuff <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Micah
