Default NOS in a 944 NA?

Riddle me this, I have ovserved an unlimited arsonal of posts "how do I turbocharge my 944 na", or "how do I make my 944 NA fast"? To most supercharging (SFR or Lindsey) and turbocharging(purchasing a 951) is expensive, but it is very effective. One rather unexplored option is installing nitrous. It could be a simple installation (fogger into the air box) but I know its horrible on the engine.

Im not interested in performing this little experiment as I have a few modified 951's. Has anyone on RL performed the task?

I have seen posts on RL, with pics, of 944 NAs with nitrous. I don't know if those people are still around, but I'm sure you could dig through the archives and find something. It's been done, with good results too!

Nitrous isn't nearly as bad for the engine as people act like, just do a proper setup.

I would like to see someone develop a low boost and modest 60 to 80 HP supercharger for the 944. There are so many 944's out there but no one is going to spend $6500 on a SC kit for a car that is only worth that in prime condition. I am stilling hoping for descent supercharger kit for 944 in the $3000 range. Does anyone think this is possible?

yea nitrous is safe as long as u tune for it properly. a 35-50shot with -4 degrees timing is quite safe

but yer not allowed to track with nitrous....and you can only spray for 15 seconds at a time....so it's not as fun as others forms of boost...

Possible, yes. Likely, no. The Jackson Racing setup for Miata would be a great place to start. I imagine you could get that extra HP with some fueling mods (injectors). The only way I see it happening is if 30 buyers come up with $90,000 and hand it to Jackson Racing (or Kraftwerks), and then cross your fingers and hope they come up with something worthwhile. And while you wait, shop for upgraded brakes and transmission!

I would bet a company like JR, if they'd put as much time into working on the SC as I have so far, would probably charge about that much.

Having been one of the few members who has run nitrous at any real level I can tell you the 944 engine especially the early 8v (low comp) motors are fantastic to run with nitrous.

To get a early car to run spray there is very little you have to do to the setup in order to gain some massive power.

1. Buy a Wet Fogger setup (like this but any universal wet fogger will work http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NEX-ML2000/) $400
2. Install Wet Fogger setup
3. Pour 93+ octane into the tank
4. Throw in a stage colder sparkplug ($10)
5. Install 100hp jets

13's in the 1/4mile ($410)
= 120whp to 220whp/275ft-lbs

6. Install MSD + Retard controller ($500)
7. Retard -4degree at 3k+ rpm
8. Install 150jets
9. Install RARST Rods (optional)

= 120whp to 270whp/350ft-lbs

12's in the 1/4mile for 1k invested not to bad..

This is just a general idea from what I have done on my beater. I still don't think anyone has beat my S2 1/4mile times in any 944 with a porsche I4 as of yet.

Also, forgot to mention with the MSD its basically a built in window switch and you can add a Zex WOT switch to any kit. That way your built in TPS will activate the nitrous under WOT!. I find that its a very nice feature really helps improve your times at the track and keeps things a bit safer when your launching off the line..

How about high compression,10.6:1 euro with 100 jets? Would that be safe?

I actually have a pretty nice direct port system that I had on my b20vtec hatch before it got stolen. I have the wot kit with V8 selenoids on it. This kit hits pretty hard and ive always wanted to instal it on my 944 but had no info on other porsches beign sprayed. My best time on my hatch was an 11.02 on a 100 shot. This is great info. any other people have sprayed a 944???

worth a try?? here are some pics of the system
