I did my own re-charge with the store-bought kits and was able to improve performance. But it was only an improvement and only temporary. I bit the bullet and had a shop vacate the system and do a recharge, and it's been working extremely well for two years now.

+1. Go to harbor freight and get a radiator rake to straighten the fins on the condenser.
Did it to mine... not only does the AC work better, but my car runs a tick cooler as well.
I was thinking about misting the condenser too. My AC is cold, but sitting at a light for a few min with the outside temp over 105, its not COLD. Using the windshield washer system to mist some water would be perfect.
