Is this early 944 project worth the trouble?
I've been wanting a low mileage, "time capsule" early car and found this 84 locally that supposidly has 22k original miles per the owner. He bought the car in 1995 with 18k, but it's been off the road for ten years now. Claims it ran well when parked. Has good body and paint. Beautiful sport seats with factory sunroof delete. Dash is cherry minus 2-3 small dash cracks, except it smelled musty inside. No obvious signs of water damage. One of the rims needed to be refinished. Engine was dirty, fluids looked ok. I'm suspicious of the mileage and he has no history to prove it's genuine. Seems firm around $4k but I think I could get a bit more off. Prior salvage. Here's some pictures, am curious what you guys think?

this may be a long shot but check what kind of tires are on the car...if it is that low of mileage and its been parked there may be a chance they are original..

In the picture you can see it has Pirelli P6's. I think that's the OEM tire, but it looks like the lug nuts have been taken on/off quite a few times for only having 22k?

the interior looks very very minty. the outside looks pretty good as well. 4K ?? try to ask for a lower price....haggling can never hurt, the worst thing the owner can say is no, in which case you get a 951 .
but get a PPI, just to be sure. check for any maintenance receipts. my car has a salvage title, the only damage done to it was the passenger fender is dented in a fender bender. everything else in the car is just fine. body is straight. find out why this car has the salvage title.

what happened to the "rock guard" thingies?
salvage and $4k ... maybe if it was all up on the maintenance
you'd be surprised at stuff you can find wrong after a car sat for that long, that $4k may turn into $8k very quickly!

sounds fishy and not that good of a deal. you can get better. the rear seat back half is from a late car. i believe early cars or at least mine come with a leather pull string to pull down the rear seats not a button like that one. also whats up with that late car ask tray sitting on there haha. and the speaker plate under the glove box?? haha super clean car. but you can get better for cheaper.
