From a San Jose native, very glad you're okay and that there were some good people there to help you out and help provide a little karma. Hope you'll be able to buy them a beer!

That is unlucky.. strip the aftermarket stuff of the block (that is if there is anything worth salvaging. (after you get the payout of course.) But at least you got justice with him in jail. Sorry to here about it.

He's INSURRRRRED!!!!!!

I can pick up the initial report today, have a Dr. appt on Wed. What a load off my shoulders!

Though, on an aside - turns out AAA charges me $1/month to give me basic uninsured motorist coverage (which is not required in CA) that pays $3500 for my car and up to $20k for my injuries, so that is nice.

So, Mercury just offered me $7,450 for the car. I am countering by faxing 15 pages of receipts and other ads for 951's in similar condition, explaining that it is worth closer to $10,500. Luckily, I am in absolutely no hurry to settle - I have alternate transportation for as long as I need, and my life is a frugal one.

Interestingly, they are not offering me a buyback option on the car - instead, their above offer assumes that I will be keeping the car. They have contacted a salvage company that has agreed to give me a good chunk under $1000 for the car, but apparently I am allowed to do with it what I want.

Which means that I am open to offers if anybody wants a wrecked 951 with perfect left side, most of a good interior, a PowerHaus turbo (30k on the turbo), MAF, chip, three good Fuchs, and (now here's the real reason to buy it) if you can get it out from the mangled remains of the passenger door... a MAGLIGHT!!! I would not be able to transport it and I do not have anyplace to put it, and it would have to be out this weekend, unless you feel like paying $50/day to the tow facility. Car is in Campbell. Not sure if this will really appeal to anybody, but it kills me to think of all those go-fast goodies getting crushed. Offers and discussion via PM only, please - I have a sneaking suspicion Mercury is watching me and using my words against me

Now where'd my tinfoil hat go?

My back, shoulders, neck, and hip hurt. I am also nauseous most of the time and am having trouble sleeping - it feels like my body is always hot. Worst of all, I am a type 1 diabetic and it is screwing with my insulin responsiveness, so my blood sugar is all over the map.

That said, apparently they deal with medical stuff in a separate settlement from the car stuff. I am waiting to even discuss all that stuff until I am sure there are no new issues. Saw Dr yesterday, gotta deal with the bone benders and the endos next.

glad you got out relatively unscathed. i'm simply amazed that the damage to the car wasn't more severe getting t-boned at high speed. most cars i've seen that hit like that look like a big V!
re your DM: it, like blood pressure, are usually negative impacted by pain, so it may be awhile til you get your glu back under control. i'd make extra sure to keep to a strict diabetic diet and monitor your glu closely, you certainly don't want to go into a keto state or something. staying well hydrated is pretty crucial in fending that off as well. i wish you the best man and keep us posted.

I too am glad your ok. Relatively speaking. That accident is why I chose to get another one of these. I have seen several badly wrecked and they all held up really well. Definately settle where you are happy, insurance people in general have no idea what kind of money goes into these cars.
