Interesting lap time comparison 944 Cup (na vs turbo)
Look at this link:

Non turbo cars have similar, and sometimes better lap times. The Daytona time is really surprising given how much "straight" that track has.
These are cars will essentially stock drivetrains, so there's a 40?-50? HP difference. Before reading too far into it, I think the most likely reason for the similarity is that the regular Cup class (n/a) is much larger with a deeper pool of competitors, and the SuperCup class is much smaller and less likely to have the talent base.
Either way, it's inspiring for us 0.0 psi people.

When I put the 968 engine in the 924s I dropped around 2 seconds at Barber with no other real changes. Since then my times have dropped an additional 4 seconds but that's due to many reasons.

i've always felt N/A's in general are better for tight road courses. I feel like im either braking or full throttle trying to milk every little bit out. in comparison when i drive my fathers 951 although im a little quicker (for various reasons) i find myself holding back a little because the power delivery just isnt as smooth as my 924S. Plus as its been said the N/A is a decent amount lighter and that def makes a difference when talking about braking late and being able to control the car when trail braking and throttle steering.
Basically this proves you dont need power to go fast.

Depending on the track a 944 could certainly be faster than a 951.
First thing to remember is that they are slightly lighter stock.
They also have a touch more down low grunt than the Turbo. The total usable power under the curve is what is really going to matter for each given track.
This means that one tighter tracks the 944 has an advantage over a 951. It can get out of the corners a touch faster.
On tracks with longer straights and/or fewer slow turns I would expect the gap to widen in favor of the 951.

No, that's not what one really weighs... But to run it in the Super Cup class, that's what it must weigh. With only the Cup and Super Cup classes, they use weight as the equalizer. Otherwise they'd have classes A-M like PCA...

In full race trim they are going to be muck closer in weight.
In stock form the 951 not only had the additional turbo parts, but it usually came with other things like power seats, where many 944 did not.
When both are in full race trim most of the little extra luxury items have been removed. The body is the same.

I did read a old magazine article not long ago comparing The 924S.944.944S and 944 Turbo. Quite interesting data if i am not mistaken it was done on the willow springs track. Here are some of the cutouts from it ..
Enjoy.
Enjoy.
