Post Need to find a mechanic near Ashburn, VA

I am moving from Jacksonville, Florida to Ashburn, VA. I have a 1987 Porsche 924S. The car has been faithfully serviced by Broadfoot racing for the last 10 years. Does anyone know a good mechanic in the Northern VA area?

Do a search. There's a lot of places in NoVA that services Porsche....There is a place called Dr. John's in Sterling which is close to Ashburn which was recommended. It's a bit far for me so I do not have first hand experience.

Not sure where Ashburn is, but I take my Porsches to RPM Motorsports in Springfield. They do great work and the General Manager drives an S2. He knows the 924/944/968 series like the back of his hand.
Drop me a PM if you want the Phone #

I use Redline in Purcellville, west of Ashburn. May be further than you want to go, though.

I have used all of them. I like the guys at rpm and I have friends that work at autothority and I presently have my car at redline. There are many more places in the area, but these are among the top.

I had recommended Dr. John's Motorsports in Sterling previously and still stand by that recommendation fully. I can't, however, sit by as Red Line Motors is recommended. My experiences there ended very poorly, and I will never return. Not even if they repaired my car for free.

I'd love to hear more about your dealings with redline. I have always liked Tom and his work as well as his price.

I accepted a cash settlement earlier this year to officially end my dealings with Red Line, after living through a complete nightmare at their shop last year. I still have trouble talking about it because it makes my blood boil.

And IMHO, his price is no better than some other shops that are much closer, particularly Dr. John's. Shop around. Sooner or later, you'll be glad you did.

We are fortunate in this area to have a lot of qualified independent Porsche shops. Try the ones closest to you (for Ashburn, Curry's or Dr. Johns both know these cars REALLY well) and if you like them, stick with them.

I had been using RPM because they are closer to where I live, but I had a bad experience with them recently and because of the way they handled it I won't be going back.

I went to Curry's Auto Service once to replace an alternator for my 951. (I hadn't found Dr. John's yet.) They sold me an alternator, not even Bosch, for $468. Just for the part! The whole swap was well approaching $700.

They also gave me a $2200 estimate for a leaking steering rack, which I later had fixed somewhere else for way under half that amount.

I can't comment on their knowledge of the 944 since it was just an alternator, but they are very pricey as far as I can tell.
