Default Update: Fresh paint pics added pg.2

Hi, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Monty and I have been a rennlist member for a relatively short time. I purchased my first Porsche just before Christmas last year. It is a 87 951 with 51000 actual miles. Mechanically the car is fine but it was rear ended on the left side. Through this forum I have been able to get all the parts I need to repair it. I will post some pics as I go along. The problem I have now is the frame is tweaked a little and in order for me to repair that I need to remove the gas tank but can't find any source on that procedure. If someone out there can help I would appreciate it. I have searched here and Clarks garage without success.

Hello Monty, A BIG WELCOME TO THE FORUM. I have not had to remove the fuel tank, but have read posts that say you have to remove the transaxle in order to drop the tank. It is a pretty involved procedure. You could do a SEARCH on here for Fuel Tank Removal or words to that effect and bring up past posts. Hopefully one of the Gents on here that dismantle cars will chime in on just how to do it.

Cheers,
Larry

I think I can fix the frame without removing the fuel tank now. I am attaching some pics of my current progress.

Looking good Monty. That's a whole lotta cutting and such.

Looks like you are splicing in that tail piece pretty spiff.

Exterior sheetmetal is fitting very good. Interior still needs some work. I'm looking at maybe another 6 weeks before it's finished. I hope to take it to Wisconsin in May. We'll see.

I have to say, it kind of sucks being over here in WI while my dad is back in MI working on this project, it got me looking back and digging... 4.5 years ago we were restoring a different black porsche... fond memories

Missed your dad's first post as I was vacationing (and sick).

I remember the black 944 thread very well, still amazed at how nice these cars look when cared for
