How long will a 944 last?
I found a 1987 Porsche 944 with 168,000 miles for $3,500. How many more miles can these cars go, given regular maintenance?

I bought my 87 n/a at 156,000 and drove it to over 300,000. I swapped in a fresher engine, but I probably didn't need to at 287,000. I sold the car running, and I believe it's still going. It did autocrosses and road courses.

i bought my car with 8,800 on the odometer. checked in carfax. back in 1991, it had 140k.
if it has good oil pressure and good compression, i think it'd be good for another 100k. but at these high mileage, normal maintenance isn't enough. u need to go thru some of the other wear items like suspension, brake system. all the plastic components and rubber seals in all the components are going to be starting to deteriorate just due to old age. u can find most of these things in rebuild kits on pelican or paragon.

Mine has well over 200k (odometer stopped just after) with good compression still on all 4. Many will tell you that these cars will last almost forever, but things will break or just get old.

i had 213,000 on the original engine and trans...ran pretty well, it was due for a timing belt/wp job, as well as a general tune up...so i decided to spend a few grand more and put in a bigger engine (just a little bit bigger.....) but i'm planning on doing the maintenance on that engine and putting it in another car...so they last pretty well!

the other Luis, should chime in any minute... since he's parted like 13 turbos, and a handfull n/a's so the legend says.
we've had our run-ins, as many of you all know...
but, he may also be THE most reliable to buy parts from for this sector of Rennlist.

How good maintenance has been done until today?
If you drive the car hard it will brake sooner or later, specially models without external oil cooler. Repair cost is high.
If the car looks and is in really good shape and comes with tons of maintenance bills you could drive this car without major problems.
Get the best one you can.
