Actually, it is fairly common to see people from Europe refer to the removeable top as a Targa. This guy didn't just make it up.

IIRC, Porsche called the sunroof a "Targa" at the time.

the term targa top came from the notion of a removable roof. Seeing as it does not slide open. cant be called a sun roof. as it really only lets in air when it's open. you have to fully remove it for it to be truly open..

haha i sent that guy a e mail befor.... sorry your car is not a targa. and i explained how the targas dont have a top part of the door frame. but i never got anything back.

Actually, all 944:s with a sunroof are named targa.

At least they are named that in Germany.
