Talking I need a wheel color opinion...

So I just got back from Nelson's Ledges, and boy are my street tires tired!

They goo-ed on me and I spun as my brakes faded as well! So its time to upgrade before BeaveRun next month!

I need a summer, Auto X, DE tire on my other rims and I'm pretty sure the Yoko 032 are going to be the winner (Victoracers suck in the rain and for any daily driving?).

The other rims being:

In a dead chrome need to be refinished kind of condition (16" by 8 and 9 inches wide, what fun!).

So I was thinking of powdercoating for its affordability and durability, plus its versitility! What color becomes the question...

My Car (more in my p-car online profile):

What color would you pick?

White would look great but could you say brake dust? Would it be worth cleaning up all the time?

Silver always looks good, but I could get whatever I want.

Pewter? Thats where I'm leaning now...

Any Photoshop pros want to take a stab?

Thanks!

I think a gunmetal or white powdercoat would look excellent with the blue.

Oh, and for tires.. Gen 2 RE-730's. Can't beat the price or the performance for a street / AX tire.

Just my .02 but powder coating the rims will require you to heat them considerably. This may not be the best idea if you are going to race with them as it potentially could cause the rim to become brittle. Not completely sure about this but I would find some one who could tell you for sure if this is possible. Breaking a rim during and AUTOX or DE could be devastating! <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Are they going to be track only rims? Or are you going to be driving around on them on a daily basis?

If they are track only go for some thing bright, like maybe matching the car? Or white.

If they are dual natured, I vote for BMW's chrome shadow (I think that is what it is called) it is the finish on the new M3's wheels, it is quite the finish, hides brake dust, but is still very good looking.

I agree with matching the car's paint. If you want something unique, it's a beautiful color.

Mostly track wheels, but the occasional romp through the streets. The are going to get me to and from the track as well.

Matching the car's color would be a tough one, it's a metallic pearl, too much color changing going on!

White sure would look nice, but if i'm showing the car, I best have a lot of rags! Maybe a pearl white?

Choices, choices, choices...

Now you know why I posted the topic!

We need more photoshop experts on this board, i know there are a couple of people, but still it is a lot to ask them to photoshop every idea we come up with.

Really the only way to decide is to see it. I vote for doing the wheels yourself with spray paint, i did it with my last wheels and it turned out great on both sets. I'm sure you can get a can of spray paint made in the metalic blue, spray in blue, clear coat, then leave the lip of the wheels silver. It would look very good, or at least i think it would.

I can only speak as one with exceptional taste and extraordinary artistic abillity... Silver, black, or red... red you say... yes red.... but only if your mostly at the track. If it were me -- silver. The silver is readily available (several shades and styles) and you just can't miss.

Well I would certainly consider painting them myself, BUT:

The aluminum alloy is corroded/oxidized more than paint would cover. And Sandblasting/beadblasting is not in my grasp.

Plus, these wheels are destined to see some serious abuse, I don't intned on being too nice to them!

Red would be neat, but a little over the top ofr any daily use, as soon as they were on the street, red wheels turn rice to me. Plain silver always looks good, but it is plain silver on "special" wheels, so that is out.

I looks like a decision between White or Gunmetal/Pewter like the Z06 Vettes.

So the question would be: Is White worth cleaning up after?

Somebody has too much time on their hands!!!

I would go with white myself. Buy a bottle of windex and a bag of rags for $10. Stick em in the trunk in your tool box and no more brake dust after autox events!!
