Detoit diesel 6-72. Turbo, 4 valve head. That is JUST what a 944 NEEDS!

I don't get the defense of the Porsche motor. I only argue to leave the Porsche motor in a car that doesn't need major work, just because a swap is usually a greater amount of work. Usually a swap ends up hacked unless you have serious skills or money as well.

BMW does a much better job on powertrain. I wish more mfrs would make a straight-6.

Porsche did a better job on engineering an uncompromising, stout chassis. The two would work perfectly...too bad the modern BMW six doesn't fit.

The cylinders are vertical, not slanted. It would be way too tall.

I really would like to install a BMW I6.

I have a 02 Envoy with 4.2 in it as well. I was thinking that that would be a nice motor to do a refit as well. Runs strong lots of power. On a GM sight it had said that when GM tested the motor they ran it at full throttle for 500,000 mile or the equivalent to that in hours and still ran very good .Now they more then likely had fresh oil running threw it for this testing but not sure ????? It does look tall and might not fit with out hood bumped up . Also some had bad cylinder liners . Check VIN for which ones did. I think in the 2002 time . Mine is in the VIN of that problem engine so far no problems only knocking on cold start . I have 154,000km on it run and never touch the moter other then a $63.00 water pump.

im not defending the stock motor- hell im doing a V8 swap in my garage right now. I just dont understand sticking motors in that dont fit at all, just to get power that can be had by the stock motor (turbo) or any other motor that would fit. Hell put a 3.8 gm motor in before that.
