Engine Oil Flush?
Anyone ever do or use something like this?
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/aef.aspx
If I was going to trust any liquid-do-it-yourself, Amsoil would be one of the brands I'd trust...but curious if it's more hurtful than helpful on our cars.
I know there's the 'mechanical' types as well where they run some chemicals through the engine with some kind of a pump, but don't know much about those.
Any experience here?

Youd only need it if you went too long on your oil changes, or used crap oil.... IMHO.
When I opened my engine up, the only gunk/goo was in spots that a cleaner wouldnt reach. It was otherwise clean, at 216k miles.

yeah, I've read the same and my engine has been pretty well maintained (91k miles). The manual pump backwards flushes through the oil pan kinda freak me out anyway - don't think there's any way I would let anyone do that to my car.
What about the Seafoam through the oil / in the gas from time to time. Anyone do that?

I used Seafoam in my boat that had been in storage for 7 years, and it worked wonders. Since it worked so well on the boat, I've put it in my cars (gas) once a year as preventative maintenance. I read (many years ago) that Porsche does not recommend any type of oil additive.

what specifically...looks pretty straightforward...put it in with a new oil change and drive ~4k and dump it, then fill it back up. Am I missing something?

If the motor was really gunked up or had gone way too long between changes you can run some ATF through it. It is highly detergent adn will help clean it out a ton. Change the oil replacing one quart with ATF, run it for 15 minutes and then change it again. Either way I would not leave that stuff in the motor long.

That's the routine..Just make sure to leave it in for the full OCI. As for ATF, that'll work if you don't have severe varnish or sludge to deal with...Marvel Mystery Oil is another option similiar to ATF.
