Any chance you can get a pic online of yours?

I emailed the above company about this topic and this is what they had to say:

"The 996 uses a flat sidewinder style key. The grooves are cut into the
side of the key. The key blank would be very different than what your
944 would use, unless you've modified it by putting a 996 lock cylinder
and tumbler set on the 944. The switchblade remote cost is 85.00 plus
15% plus shipping to you. As to the key blank, I would need more info
from you on is this is what you really want. Let me know, thank you,
Jeff."

So how'd you do it Keith

This sounds like a good use for our PCA $100 Gift Certificates.

David,
I was thinking the exact same thing. I actually went looking for mine a couple of hours ago. Just found it.

Here's what I received from Sunset:

"Yes we have the switchblade style remote (fob) for 85.00 plus 15% plus shipping. The 944 key does clip right into it, you would just have to have it cut by a locksmith. Let us know, we usually keep them in stock.""

It does sound like a great use of the $100 PCA certificate. <img src="graemlins/bigok.gif" border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" />

After I replied back to him this is what I heard:

"Hi, yes I've seen a few questions about this, what does work is putting a 944 key blank in the 993 switchblade remote. You threw me off when you wanted the 996 key blank, that would not work in the 944 key switch. So you'd be looking at 85.00 plus 15% for the remote (fob) and 4.15 plus 15% for the 944 key blank. You should know that most of our customers that have those remotes find them to be bulky. The blank does clip right into the remote though. Thanks again, Jeff."

So, there you have it! I'm really interested in it and would like to see another 944ers key with the switchblade.

I say go for it if we can use your $100 gift cert. It says it has to be an order of 200 bucks or more, but this would definitely be cool to essentially get for *free*.

get 3 people who are interested, order 3 of the keys (which is over $200) get $100 off with your pca gift cert. and then split the remaining cost so the three of you get a bit of a price break.

dont know if you want to waste your $100 off like that but it seems like a good idea to me, i would get one of those cool keys but $80 is a bit much

Dan,
Great idea. I'd be willing to send in my certificate if anyone wants to join in.
I really wasn't going to use it anyway.
First 2 to respond are with me. Who's in!
I'll reserve one spot for you if you like Dan.

just tell me how much it will come out to.

even if you dont get a third person, you can just order 2 keys + something else for your self to bring it up to $200 then it would be $50 each plus shipping

btw i just joined the PCA like 3 months ago, are those gift certificates only for long time members?

Here's the deal. Each key will come to about $105.
If we do 2 people, it will be about $53 apiece.

3 people will be about $70 apiece.

Dan, if you want in, I'll order for the both of us.

If not, I'm open to another taker.

If the 3rd spot isn't already spoken for, I want in. Let me know, sounds pretty cool.
