This is in Arcata, CA, near Eureka, 300 mi N of San Francisco, in Humboldt Co. by-the-sea, with notoriously high gas prices already.

and also because the 944/951 engine really prefers the higher octane fuels.
I suppose some of you run regular, to the detriment of your timing and HP.
I used to run 93octane, but its hard to find and way expensive these days. Now I run 91, plus a gallon of tolulene per 10 gallons of gas. 91 octane is at about 2.07 here in Phoenix. I have seen a few places a bit higher, a few a bit lower.
My car has never had 87/89 octane, I believe it would run like **** if I tried to feed it crappy fuel.
There are a few places down by the raceway that have higher octane fuels, but $6 a gallon for 100 octane is grotesque when you have a 18.5 gallon tank. Tolulene is about $6 a gallon but is 113 (check the RacerX site for more fuel info) octane, so it mixes down and adds a point or two to the 91 stuff.

Race Car
I saw 93 for $1.79 yesterday (with no engine in my car I've been driving the company vehicle, fuel goes on the company card, I don't bother to look at the price).
87 octane is fine for a stock 944, IIRC it's good for a turbo also, additional octane will get you nothing except a lighter wallet. A modified car is another story, most mods will require the use of better fuel.

I somehow doubt it'd be good thing running 87 in an 11:1 compression engine. My owners manual says to run 93 and I wouldn't think about running anything else. That said I did pay $1.93 a gallon yesterday...I'll be glad to have the mule car back on the road after today that I can run 87 in.
