Question one windshield washer squirts, one doesn't - what's up with that?

I finally got the hood shocks installed and have now moved on to the inoperable windshield washer. The nipples were broken off the pump, but I was able to rig up a solution (I'll explain later if anyone has an interest). Now the passenger-side washer squirts great. The driver's-side washer just blows bubbles and dribbles a little fluid. Anybody know why one would work and not the other???

Because its clogged up.

take a toothbrush or something to it, or take it off and used some compressed air or something....

A sewing needle works great to unplug them.

The check valve on that side may be stuck in a position that blocks flow. That's what happened in my case.

The check valve (I assume that's the clear L-shaped plastic whatnot) did appear to be crudded up. A combination of tapping on my countertop and using the sprayer in my kitchen sink got most of the crud out. I also confirmed that a good flow of fluid came out up to the point of the check valve. But when it's all hooked up there are still just bubbles coming out of the holes in the sprayer, so it's obviously clogged between the check valve and the hood. I tried blowing (mouth) on the end of the short tube that goes to the sprayer and was able to force a little air through the holes. I also poked around with a sewing needle with very little success. I suppose compressed air might be the next thing, but I don't have a compressor. Would the air pump in the hatch or a tire pump at a gas station work?

Also, would there be any reason to remove the sprayer itself - to either clean it or replace it? I can't tell what is holding it in place (it does appear to be the heated variety with the wires if that makes any difference). I don't want to risk boogering up my hood for nothing. If it would help to remove the sprayer to clean it, any tips on removal?

I mentioned in my first post that I had come up with a method to fix the washer pump problem that I had. The problem was that the white plastic "nipples" were partially broken; however, a larger diameter portion of those nipples remained. I went to Advance Auto Parts and bought one package of 5/32" x 6' windshield washer & vacuum tubing, one package of 3/16" x 2' fuel line hose, and two "Vacu-Tite" 5/32 x 3/16 vacuum elbows.

I sprayed a little silicon into the larger fuel line hose and used a screwdriver to stretch the hole slightly. It was a tight fit, but I was able to fit that larger diameter tubing over the remainder of the nipple on the pump. I used zip-ties to hold them in place. It's a tight enough fit that I had to use a standard screwdriver to push the zip ties into place between the tubing and the body of the pump.

Then I attached the vacuum elbows that stepped down from 3/16" to 5/32", which appears to be the standard size for the windshield washer tubing. Then I ran the 5/32" tubing back to the reservoir.

Check out the picture and I think you'll see how I made it work. At least how I made the passenger side sprayer work. Now if I could just get the driver's side to work.....

Well, I tried to post the picture without success. I used the "image" button and put in the web address where the picture resides. What did I do wrong? How do I post a picture directly to rennlist???

My hoses were clogged but the PO sprayed the entire car GR and I couldn't find the blockage. I replaced with good tubing and all is well now.

I'm pretty sure the hoses are clear as I have a strong stream of water up to the check valve at the driver's side sprayer. It must be clogged in that short distance between that check valce and the sprayer. The issue is how to unclog.

Try bypassing the check valve by insering straight-through coupling in its place. At least that will allow you to rule out the check valve for sure, if nothing else.

Be careful with the sewing needle! Um, I broke one off, the last time I did it.
