When my daughter was 15 she drove my new truck down to the barn just to bring a saddle back to the house. She caught the front bumper on the only tree close to the barn and ripped the bumper straight out on one side. Her first car, a 76 crappy brown Ford Maverick 4 door. She drove that car for 2 yrs until I bought her a new one.
Cheers,
Larry

Sorry to see that Mike! It's fixable, but will need metal shrinking.
I agree with Brian ^^^, my old man never gave me a dime for a car, and that's why I learned as much as I did. OTOH, my sister and her husband just bought their 16 yr old an $18k Passat, the kid does not know "lefty loosey..." and never will. He doesn't know how to check oil.

That looks like about $1500+ in damage. If you dont mind perfection, just go in there with a hammer and a piece of wood and see how good you can get it. You will never get perfection by just trying to pop that out. The metal has stretched and it will need to be massaged into perfection.

Find someone skilled in metal work. The damage can be repaired with very tiny amount of body filler.

Sorry to hear! This couldn't have happened to a more helpful, courteous Rennlister. Your kid owes you big time.
As for the repair, CT is noted for top notch classic car restorations. If you ask around for shops that do body work on classics, I'm sure you'll find someone skilled enough at using extractors and panel beating who can bring that fender right back.
Keep in mind these cars have pretty thick sheet metal by today's standards and give a lot of leeway for traditional panel beating/straightening if the operator knows what they're doing.
Good luck!

from ct dmv:
Obtaining a Learner's Permit
Who Needs a Learner Permit
All 16 and 17 year olds must first obtain a learner permit before practice driving. People age 18 and over do not need a learner permit to practice driving.
How to Obtain a Learner Permit
All 16 and 17 year olds must pass a 25 question knowledge test before they can obtain a learner permit. We strongly suggest that you take some time and thoroughly study the Connecticut Driver’s Manual before you take this test. All the material on the test is in that manual, including information on the restrictions for 16 and 17 year olds.
i'd have been embarassed to make this post, whinIng that it's the kid's fault, YOU SHOULD LOSE YOUR LICENSE FOR ALLOWING IT.
