Default No car sits well...

...or so the expression goes.

I'm leaving the country for about 6 months (still hasn't sunk in yet!) soon. And I am planning on leaving my pcar in my dad's garage which is near where I'm living in Florida. So it basically boils down to this...

I can have my dad start the car/drive it around for a little bit about once a month. (I did this with my my miata a few years ago and my brother started it one day and a spark plug broke in the cylinder leaving me miataless for about a year).

OR

I can park it, leave it in gear, Ebrake off and have it untouched until i get back and can have the CV joint casings/belts/fuel lines/etc inspected for drying and cracking.

What does the Village think? I am enthusiastic to hear your thoughts on any long term storage suggestions/expiriences that you all might have to share.

For what its worth, my first 944 sat for around 7 years before I started it in 2003. Started up and ran like ***, but after I got the belt changed and some new gas in it, I drove it for almost 2 years.

Actually come to think of it the cabrio sat for around 6-8 months while I drove BMWs around.

Get some sta-bil in the gas, change the oil, put a trickle charger on the battery and let it sit.

I'm in Jacksonville. I'll drive it while you're gone. I leave on a 6 month deployment in april, so by the time you get back mine will need to be driven some too.

I'll even take yours to an autocross to keep it really warmed up. I'll even go so far as to use my race tires!

Up here in snow country storing our cars from December until the end of March is current practice, figure it out it's over 4 months , at least once a month your dad should start the car & "run all the accessories exp a/c- heater fan- flip the ligths ect ect" & if possible move it back and forth no need to take it ona 10 miles drive,fill-up the tank to 3/4 and add some gas sta-bil like jpk suggested. It's very important to move the car the reason " tranny - caliper-rotors-tires-clutchs cyls ect ect won't stay put for six months.Leave it in neutral if park flat 2 little wedges against the wheels is all you need.Wishe you a safe journey take care.

i would see if someone can run it for about 15 minutes every 10 days if you can. charge the battery about 1/2 hour before start up is of course, a good rule of thumb for the battery.

That's the most likely problem with a 6-month sit. Unless you get the car fully warmed up, til oil temp is 200 deg or so to boil off moisture, periodic starting does more harm than good. A battery tender is a good idea.

They won't if he move it back & forth once in a while " a common pratice is to bleed 4-5 pounds of air from the tires ", if you blocks it up it will be a waste of time if you wante to move it,tried that the first year I store mine "never will happen again".

Yes your rigth aka 944 & I forgot to mention that, you do have to let it warmed up usualy over the half way mark .Meaning you will also have to add gas once in a while witch is a "PITA" with a gerry can, but can't win them all I guest.

You know, come to think of it, I'm going to need someone to take care of my three sweedish model roomates too... hate to burden you with all this...

I havn't seen any white 944's in Mayport, do you drive it to work? Are you a JAX NAS guy?

*Don't want to get in trouble for getting off topic here*
I have a battery tender, forgot to mention that one.
And flat spotting... If i did not start it the whole time, couldnt I just have it rolled forward 5 inches, once a month or so.
