Rennlist Titles? John D help?

Can anyone point out the kiss butt ICON? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> I am kidding lol. How about we remove the number of posts completely then this problem disappear? Or how about we forget this thread ever happened.

Hey Dave,
Comments were not intended to reflect on any one post, just trying to salvage the thread!
I agree that we're treading on the reinvention of the wheel here (pardon the pun). What we have here in Rennlist works VERY well. My congradulations to John D. and all that he has done. This site is so FAR SUPERIOR to anything else out there, that I can't hardly stand to visit the other sites.
So, what am I actually proposing...
To a certain extent I agree with TaboII's original comment. However, I don't beleive we can fix the issue with the status lines. Too easy to "boost" your self to a higher "ranking" (and I use the term higher quite loosely). We all know that the length of time you're on this board and the number of posts has very little to do with how qualified you are to give advise - of course all the advise is free so you are getting what you paid for.
There is an area of Rennlist called the <a href="http://tech.rennlist.com/" target="_blank">Rennlist Technical Library</a> that not everyone knows exists. My suggestion is to increase the number of articles in the library and to identify contributors to the library by adding a new member designation - we'll call it "Tech Library Contributor" for now. This would be displayed in place of the "Rennlist Member" designation and would identify those who have created articles for the general group’s knowledge. In so doing, we would increase our knowledge base and single out those with expertise in one or more areas.
For example, Danno has done a great deal of research into wheel offsets, IceShark on lighting, Perry on engine fires (just kidding ). If they were to submit the information to a "tech committee" (made up of Rennlist administrators) they could review the article for errors, and then place it in an Admin post for general review. If no one finds any errors, then it could be added to the library. If errors were found, or suggestions made for changes, the author could incorporate the changes before we added the work to the library.
We then would have an ever growing single source of information about our cars. I'm positive there are other ways to do this, and that's why I'm posting. What other ideas are out there?

Once again, all kidding aside - Ideas, suggestions, and opinions are very important. We need ALL the suggestions we can get when we have no idea what's causing the problem. But how many posts get negated to the second page because some wise a$$ is post whoring his way to stardom with OT posts about Honda's, motorcycles, or GF troubles.

Icat- check the thread, the conclusion has been posted. THis was NOT an easy diagnosis by anymeans. The resultant, by trying to squeeze an little extra performance from a plug, deemed bythe OEM to be better, a problem had occurred.
the 1 percenter's problem had happened. I have learned VOLUMES in the process, and without my manuals, the exemplary help from a few rennlisters and the wisdom to ACCCEPT my limitations, I'd still be a PO'd ford owner.
I'll refuse to post anymore unless I have a problem. or an answer.
I guess I've been flamed again. so be it.

Hey Chris - I wasn't flaming you (see in post followed by: Just kidding dude). I WAS using your plight to prove a point. Your "trouble" would make a perfect example of something the "library" could use - a step by step diagnosis procedure for "unknown" issues resulting in a non-start situation. (ok, maybe that sounded a bit to term paper-ish; but you get the idea).
By the way, congrats on getting it fixed. I seem to recall somewhere a post - a long time ago - saying not to use the platinum plugs. I guess I know why now!

No harm no foul. It does get frustrating (LOL) looking for a myriad of "could-be" problems, crawling under a car on the side of a busy street in snow and eventually getting so sick from it you can move YOURSELF for a few days.
I'll add it - if it helps someone out, than it's worth ALL of my aggrivation and stress.
Peace out.

Hi Guys.....
Actually - I'd rather not pull this post/thread.... Why???
While I've been a bit busy today trying to get a project out (it's late), explaining copyrights, helping out a few folks as an ADMIN, assisting a few folks get squared away on some new "Group Buys", interacting with some of the Moderators on another problem with a Forum thread, trying to get another circuit up and running, arguing with another group....
Nevermind... OK, in my spare time - I like to watch where a thread like this is going. Simply stated, there are some good ideas that pop out on occassion. Some of them are good, and some are not "so good". But for that - all of you (well, most of you )are explaining what you'd like to see for features/functionality. To me - some actually make it to the "short list" for site upgrades - which is kind of neat...
Anyway - sorry for the interruption... Back to doing what I was previously - whatever that was

OK Keith, now you're makin' more sense!
The first problem we have to overcome is:
LACK OF USE OF THE EXISTING LIBRARY!
People often (myself included) go straight to the forums with a problem instead of checking what may already exist. Maybe a link, up top between "classifieds" and "help" might be good. If it's full of great write-ups but still gets minimal traffic, what good is it? Make it easy to use (a good index is important) and easy to access, traffic should follow.
A "TECH CONTRIBUTOR" tag would be nice, but I wouldn't replace the "MEMBER" tag. Supporting Rennlist is a good reason to have a little red tag.
Post counts and silly titles mean nothing, leave'em or eliminate 'em, they have nothing to do with these other issues. Start a new thread and let's see what others might add. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

I can't believe that my last post took 45 minutes to put together (many interruptions).
John D., Thanks, I want to see where this goes too!
I also want to add that TOO MUCH use of said library will lead to a forum with nothing left but the OT stuff. Without the blend of topics that we now have this community would not be as good, it's the little peek into eachother's lives once in a while that let's us get to know one another.

I agree with leaving the “Rennlist Member” tag in place. Maybe we could add the “Contributor” tag like John does with “Rennlist Sponsors”. The idea is to increase awareness of the library and the number of contributions – give the author something for his/her troubles and get a tech article in return. Increase awareness comes every time they post and the tag line appears.
Hey, maybe we could get Michelle to write an article on color coordinating curtains in artistically challenged neighborhoods for the 951 rear hatch!
DISCLAIMER –That was a joke – please don’t tell my wife!
