I think we should place a FAQ at the top of the page like the 928 board and others. This would get rid of many of the common questions like "what problems to look for on a 944?" and many other questions that seem to pop up once every couple of days. We could also point users to Clarks-Garage and many other useful resources. They will learn a lot more about these cars doing their own research rather than being spoon-fed info from other members.

Thumbs up

As you can see, I'm a newbie. Reading this thread is for me, very educational (like to see it continue). I agree with the FACT that this site is the BEST THING since peanut butter! I love what John D. and company are doing to make this a better place to be! I LIKE the fact that at a glance, I can SEE who aggrees with above statements when theres a red Rennlist Member tag under their name (I happen to base my judgement of advise offered somewhat by this). I learned real fast that the number of posts listed/or "title" does not mean "Porsche mechanical/electrical expertise". I do like the exchange of ideas by anyone at anytime because it is, what I believe, what makes this site really good. I like the idea of making the Rennlist Technical Library more visable and built upon. I think its unfortunate that sometimes some things are taken a little to personally. Thats life, HUH? So.....you guys that have been here a while, get with it.....what do ya think about this subject? Theres some good ideas out there that just might be in the future for this site.

And THANKS! for all the help I've gotten already!

I like the idea of adding a link of the "tech referance" area to the top like the "home page" Subscribe/register" ect are. I would click it a lot more often.

And, i really don't care about the number of posts. I just think that one thread is fun, its a good read at the end of the day.

Hi folks...!

Just glancing through this thread again, and I agree with Ken (Granite 944) and others that there are some terrific ideas... For that, some of you may remember that I've got a development Board I'm working on here: <a href="https://rennlist.com/forums/" target="_blank">https://rennlist.com/forums/</a>

Across the top, I've modified the links/titles to include some of the suggestions. I should also add a link to the TECH areas (great idea!). Now - that site should go on-line in the not too distant future (I'm still working on some of the conversions - like the HTML problems, some issues with the Log-in - oh, and I need to get the new circuits tied in )...

Anyway - keep the suggestions coming!!! My thanks!!!!

Ok I have changed the title back to the original post title,

I originally decided to pull the title and hoped to remove the post all together because I don’t think that runaway posts do anything but add clutter for no apparent reason. Thanks to ICat and Dave it seems this post has some real life to it and could at very leas give John D something to put on his list of possible up grades.

As the thread has changed directions a bit I agree with Dave and Icat that making a more extensive guide section available for all to reference is a great idea and should be promoted. The only problem in this and one of my greatest personal faults is people tend not to follow through with completing these sorts of things. For example, I have three guides that I have started personally but have yet to complete for submission.

I also agree that there should be some sort of review committee or process that these items or guides should go through in order to promote good information and not just opinion. Maybe there should be some designation to individuals involved in this process simply to identify them as such.

Not that I want to nor feel that I should defend myself on this issue, however, the original post was written with the new member or visitor in mind. TO simply increase passing of solid information from the members who have the experience and or knowledge to correctly explain the procedures for resolving problems that any one might have. This is not to omit others from chiming in with there experience or suggestion but only to allow the individual with the original problem to pinpoint specific information coming from an experienced member with more precise information. Thats all.

Believe me I understand that this IS a Public forum and this lends itself to the odd remarks and jabs from time to time, but on the same note I would like to see this forum a place that other enthusiast, members and visitors can feel confident in when in need of solid information quickly. There is a lot of clutter at times with the OT posts not that this is a problem because most of us that put up an OT post are doing it because we want an opinion of the group thus the open and public forum.

Ok I will get off the soap box now and let the open debate or flaming recommence as before. But if there are recommendations to implementing processes or those that feel we can make this site a better place altogether with our suggestions, please feel free to join in on the conversation.

TaboII,
I know we kind of hijacked the thread, but I wanted to say thanks for posting in the first place. Sometimes it takes guts to post something you know is going to be unpopular with some. And I might add, it's difficult to find just the right wording that some wise guy (like myself ) doesn't take issue with. At any rate, I think we've had some good suggestions that John may be able to use in the future.
As Chris likes to say, "Peace Out".

What about a chat feature? The forum could stay technical, and chat could be used for everything else, including real time help...

Now I have 2 things to reacquaint myself with, I'll have to take another peek at that and the tech stuff over the weekend.

Okay, I didn't read the whole thread, excuse me if I'm repeating a previous idea:

A: Ditch the post count, BUT leave the Specialist/Fanatic/Guru statuses.

B: In place of post count, put joined: November 15, 2002

C: Add a field where the member (not John D) can descrive the amount of work he himself has done on the car. (To kinda of give others an idea of his knowledge base..) Could possibly replace the "under-avatar" status with this idea.

D: Don't touch the Rennlist Member / Sponser tags!
