Default 944 NA VS 944 Turbo

I have a interesting question.......
I am looking to get a track car just for fun track days (Not to compete).

What is a Better Track car and why if I have a 6K budget??

944 Turbo or 944 NA and why? (944 Na would be with a 16v engine maybe a 968 engine)

If you had 6k an NA is definitely the better choice because you have more money left over to keep it running.

6k for a turbo wont go far at all.

I went from a 350 HP car to a 150 HP 944 NA and I've never regretted it. You will not pass as many people on track, but you'll earn every pass and embarrass some higher HP cars. The turbo is another 60 HP (if it's stock) and tunable to a lot more than that. But its' much more prone to failure and expensive repair.

Personally, I find all the fun and skill is in the turns. Going fast down the straights involves pressing down the gas pedal and holding the wheel. Big whup.

i own a 350hp turbo and an n/a "race car" w/ a full cage etc... The N/A would never touch the turbo with lap times but among similar powered cars on the track the N/A is a blast. You can also more easily drive an N/A to its limits without getting into crazy speed range.

What does a NA weight stripped to race?
No AC, Interior, ect
W/ Roll cage and glass? any ideas?

WHat if I throw a E36 M3 in the mix? what do you think compared to a 944 NA?

Also what has to be done to a NA to make a fun track day car?
Brakes?
LSD?
Aftermarket coolers?
probably coilovers....
sways?

Echoing the others....your budget is the governing factor here. You cannot support a 951 nor M3 on $6k.

A 944 N/A you can. Sorry, but it is just that simple.

Brakes are good as is. Just add track pads.

LSD is nice, but there's not so much HP that you need it. Most 944 cup racers have open diff.

Suspension is an area you can improve. WHat you do depends on your end-game and budget. Low budget you can upgrade struts/shocks and add M030 sway bars. Higher budget you can upgrade struts and rear torsion bar. Or go full coilovers.

And if you have a lot of track time, a set of Toyo RA1s or Nitto NT01s will make a huge difference.

Most importantly, shed weight wherever you can.

Why is a E36 out of the budget.
I can get one for around 3K.
3K is not enough to support it?
It is NA shouldnt it be somewhat sturdy?

e36 m3 for 3k?! wow I thought they were more (7-9k+). I may be mistaken on the price range for e36s now that the e92 m3 is out, but if its going for only 3k, I'd recommend getting some more history on the car to figure out why they're not asking more for it.

Even if the car is in good shape, though, costs from consumables (beyond repairs) will add up - oil changes, brake fluid changes, new tires, brake pads, etc.

$3K because I will buy it wrecked and fix it myself. They do Run $5-$8K for a 95-96. 97+ are more.

I just finished building my car, it's 1050kg stripped with lexan all around but glass front. Mine is a 3.0 16V and I had the fixed plan to upgrade it to turbo after setting it up but I must admit that after the first drives, I just love the sheer grunt of the 3.0 NA. I put KW coilovers all around (2 way sport) 600/800 springs, deleted the torsion bars, put a 968 6 speed in and boy am I having fun. Think I will be able to drive it quite a bit more before I'd need more power. I was truly amazed by the speed of the thing. lap times at set up already were identical to my lap times with 911 despite the 80 or so hp difference, so... thats my 2 c.
