They also have a conversion manual with the drawings to make your own parts.
Great to know thanks!

O,
You cannot post Links, parts list/pricing, contact info, etc.... for non-Site Sponsors/Non Rennlist Vendors.

FYI: BIG no-no.

Just a heads up.

It was my wish to make a contribution to what an LSx conversion might actually cost...

There are so many variables but I decided to estimate for a high-end build, where I did no work myself...

if you go with the Renegade guys...

the parts are more expensive, but the quality is definitely there... there are of course, other vendors.

UPDATE:

GUYS ARE TELLING ME I HAVE, again, INSERTED FOOT IN MOUTH. anyway,

I am using Renegade for this estimate.

Unfortunately, the parts needed go well beyond their basic kit.

I have included a less-muddled, "additonal vital parts" list that follows...

--- Complete LS Series kit for Porsche 924S/944/turbo/968, hardware and instructions...

--- Custom adapter-bellhousing complete and pre assembled with hydraulic throw out bearing, custom hydraulic hose and fittings, and mounting hardware.

--- Custom 12 inch LS Series clutch disc with Porsche center spline.

--- motor mount kit complete with uprights, billet block plates, rubber isolators, and hardware.

--- Custom LS Series road race oil pan and pick up.

--- LS Series remote oil filter mount.

--- Renegade cross member and sway bar drop kit.

--- Custom 944 to LS Series pilot bearing.

--- brake master cylinder mount and pushrod.

--- Custom ignition coil mount bracket.

--- the above parts run $2,100, [not sold individually]

additional parts that you need to make or buy:

$1,100 CUSTOM CERAMIC COATED HIGH FLOW HEADERS: High temperature polished coating inside and out.

$245 CUSTOM REMOTE FILTER OIL LINES: One pair with all needed fittings.

$70 COOLANT TEMPERATURE, OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNITS: With correct VDO outputs.

$35 CUSTOM OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT ADAPTER

$335 HIGH PERFORMANCE STAGE-TWO YELLOW PRESSURE PLATE

$245 LS Series CUSTOM FUEL REGULATOR/FILTER/RETURN COMPLETE KIT:

With correct fittings for Porsche stock fuel lines.

$145 SWIVEL 180-DEGREE THERMOSTAT AND HOUSING: For added frame rail clearance over stock LS Series thermostat.

$130 / pr. CUSTOM BUILT POWER STEERING LINES: Cores required.

$78 [I combined 3 items]: LS Series/LT-1 RIGHT ANGLE THROTTLE BODY INTAKE BOOT: 4 inch to 3.5 inch, LS Series/LT-1 RIGHT ANGLE INTAKE BOOT: 3.5 inch to 3.5 inch, LS Series/LT-1 ALUMINUM 3.5" INTAKE TUBING

$85 LS Series TO 944 CUSTOM THROTTLE CABLE

$29 HEATER CONTROL H VALVE: The LS Series heater return loop must remain intact for the required bypass system designed into the motor. If you plan to run a heater, this type of H valve is required.

add $600-700 dollars for additional misc items that someone like Tony G. would need to get,

including, plumbing for routing a "hydrolic assist" to the master cylinder.

Source from salvage, or purchase the following items:

LSx crate, turn key engine with marine harness/fuel/engine management or salvage engine with:

FLYWHEEL and [pressure plate if you prefer not to use the Renegade HP plate]

GM LS Series CAMARO STARTER,

all accessories, ps, alternator, AC,

fuel rail, and intake, wiring harness, engine and fuel management control system,

Summit Racing or 944 Turbo radiator, and hoses.

I estimate the cost for a complete LS2, or LS3 turn key motor at anywhere from $7,500 to $9,000.

labor: figure about 50 hours, maybe $5,000 ? ?

Finally, a finished exhaust, engine tuning and break-in...

assuming you have completed your desired brake/suspension/lsd/driveshaft/gearing upgrades:

reaching for a calculator...

Renegade parts, $4,600
misc parts $ 700
turn key engine $7,500 to 9,000
exhaust and tune $1,200 ??

Before labor $15,200 to $16,700
after labor $20,200 to $21,700

stock 6th gear for a 968 is 0.778.

there is a 0.561, a 0.600 and a 0.660 gear available for the 968 G-46 box...

the 0.660 gear is my choice for the 968.

dunno about the 5 speed 944s.

./

Don’t let them fool you for a minute on quality, it is well documented on several forums including the one they took over, and deleted any posts that had anything negative to do with them or competition.

I am not just passing on "internet fact" here, I am a customer that spent thousands with them and every one of thier parts failed, or was replaced due to poor workmanship.

there are plenty of people out ther building, kits, parts and complete cars Renegade free.

wow ! I heard this a couple of years ago too... I figured it was more due to mistakes people had made doing their own work... I didn't realize it was this bad. Thanks very much.

That is why I was "politely" telling you not to endorse/support non-vendors.

Sometimes you must "read between the lines", so to speak

I'd like to hear more about the failures.

I am not affiliated with them what so ever but I do have their base kit for when I'm ready to install. There really isn't much to it and I don't see what could fail. In fact , the base kit is simple and can be fabbed by anyone but I didn't want to invest the time to reinvent the wheel when it has already been done for me. I'll be making a lot of items including my own headers and exhaust.

I will say that I was surprised to see that the motor mounts had a little weld spatter on them that wasn't ground off before finishing. Other than that everything I have appears fine and.

You have to remember that 9 out of 10 swaps are done poorly. Don't let a lot of the stuff you read dissuade you. When I was looking for an R1 3rd gen RX7 a read all these horror stories. In the end I had the car for three years of zero problems. You just have to find the right car or do things right yourself.

The words swap and cheap should be a red flag when talking to someone. If done right, no swap is really cheap. Hell, making any type of rod or custom is always expensive.

The LSx motors are really bullet proof and if you use one straight out of the crate it should be just as reliable as any other modern engine. The entire rod/custom industry uses them as their backbone.

Default I am doing a build myself

I have been using another vendor. The quality of the parts are very good and excellent service. I posted earlier but removed the post because they aren't sponsors of this site. If you want any information PM me.

I have done several of these conversion both LTx and LSx at various levels of preformance. With 300 RWHP which is very dooable on a LSx engine it is definatly a car Porsche should have built. Nice thing about a V8 is it has a pretty flat power curve.

i have a lightly build lt1 in my 944...it has a fully ported 58 mm throttle body and intake, stock injectors, lt4 hot cam, the WRONG rockers (it should have 1.6's but the ones i had were crap and they flexed, so i sold them and put the stock 1.5's on) all the emissions junk is deleted, and it has a custom tune from lt1swap.com....the thing is a monster, i'm running the stock radiator and it's definitely pulling it's weight, i've never seen the temp gauge go above 210. No A/C just an alternator being run off of the crank. I get about 16 city, 20 highway...and i think the bigass hood scoop/box thing has something to do with the not so great mileage, so that will be coming off soonish

the lsx motor comes in around 25 pounds heavier than stock n/a, about 20 pounds lighter than stock turbo

( ballpark estimate )... damn those harmonic ballancers ehh ?

fully dressed,

the LT1 engine weighs about 575 pounds, about 115 pounds more than the LSx engine weighing about 460 pounds.

there is a small weight savings if you go to aluminum heads on the LT1.
