Default Timing Belt Confusion

Just found out from my mechanic that I need a new MAF, water pump, plug wires and timing belt. My biggest problem is finding a timing belt because on LRs site they have 3 different ones, a $125 one, $35 and $12 one. Whats the difference? Also, in mind I have the High Performance wires in mind because they seem to last the longest, or am I wrong? Also, where can I find a rebuilt water pump and MAf for cheap?

the differences between $35 or $12 is either OEM or aftermarket. the $125 one is kevlar backed. extra $20 insurance vs bent valves.

rebuilt water pumps are $120 on either paragon or pelican. with trade in core.

what's wrong with yer AFM? cause they're like $230 even rebuilt with a core. even junkyard ones go for like at least $100. if it ain't broke, don't spend money on another.

I would got with the Gates kevlar timing belt ($125). It's 3 times stronger than your OEM Conti belt.

Change your timing belt, pulleys, waterpump, oil cooler gasket, & thermostat (low temp). You may want to change your front engine seals while you are there.

Zims Autotech Has one of the best rebuilt waterpumps at a great price. around $90. There is a core charge. It comes with a 1 or 2 year warantee. A new one OEM can run over $600.
.
Plug wires are pricey around $100.

the 944 has no MAF; it has an AFM (silver box thing coming out of the airbox) and usually doesnt go wrong although it can.

If you need one for an early car I should have a spare at home I'd sell for $50 shipped.

This is a great offer, but im a bit skeptical, since this afm is the 2nd to go wrong, because when I got my replacement for the bad one it was bad too.

FYI... AFMs are pretty easily tested and many times are repairable. Just a thought...Bruce

You don't list what year your car is, but if it's an early car, it is well worth changing the water pump to the later style with the belt guard. It doesn't really cost much more and IMO it is a definite improvement -- probably more than getting a kevlar belt. It is also false economy to only replace the belts, the tensioners and idlers are also important.
