Would you guys be leaving them unpainted? With all due respect... if you paint them is $500+ and the cost of paint worth it for a 10-20lb weight savings?

You could easily make your own with very little experience. Search for a recent episode of MuscleCar where they made their own frp hood off the original. It's really very easy to do. It just is time consuming.

If you were going to leave it clear you would still have to spray a UV protectant on it. UV rays break down resin if not properly protected.

because a naked carbon hood makes your car look like the nissan down the street, not to mention the color throws off the rest of the car...id paint it, but then again id probably stick with a FG hood unless CF fell into my lap

You copy cat Henk.

I'm also still interested in your other new bits of bodywork?

Henk is a walking...err driving catalogue for D9 and my lights are from them too. I would guess that he had the hood made up in Thailand but the vents are the same as mine, D9.
My hood came from Holland and needed a lot of work to 'fix' with the vents and finishing it off. The hood itself cost a small fortune and the shipping was a killer too. It owes me a pretty penny.

not affiliated, I see there is a guy here in NZ selling the moulds for his 968 bonnet (sans vents) and hatch glass. The hatch is interesting, its not lexan and he uses a camera for rear vision.

Hmm, that's unique if nothing else. The large front vents would be good especially for turbo cars.

Pretty sure the CF hood is a much larger weight savings on a 944. There is a spreadsheet of the parts weights somewhere.

I don't know how much the stock hood weighs but a carbon fiber one is only 1.2kg lighter than a fiberglass one so i don't think it's worth the extra money.
Look here http://teilecar.com/?body-parts,7,2

I have the spreadsheet but I can't upload a .xls (Excel) file? (Note: I am in the process of conveting the file .pdf so I can upload it here.)

Here it is, copied and pasted (note the stock hood is 50 lbs, according to this, and the replacement is 25 lbs) :
