Default You have $10k. Nice 951 or an RX8?

Looking for a DDable (for when the DD needs work) fun car. I'd like it to be a good autocross car (both are, except the RX8 is actually competitive) but I also want it to be fast (which the 951 is...and the RX8 isn't.)

Bonus for the 951 is that I already have lots of good parts like an LSD, sport seat, and many wheels/tires that will swap over.

Poll away...

Neither, get a B5 S4 or e36 m3. The rx8 is an asian-family graduation gift...

No 911 is a POS. The RX8 is just very underrated, simply because of the lack in power. Increase power(turbo) and you have yourself a worthy car. But, S2000.....

And when did anyone say 911....?

have you driven an rx8? find a friend to loan you one for a week and you'll not want one anymore.

yeah I know, that's why it wasn't an option! 951 silly

I like the s2000 but I don't do convertibles and I totally agree with what you said about the rx8...it is really sad to see most of the people driving them.

My g/f's bro has an S4 and WOW if I could find one I would buy it. Except that they just got the alternator replaced and it cost about $2k...working on them is tough.

The hayday of the e36 M3 is gone...they have all suffered falling into the wrong hands and would need more work then I'm looking to do.

Yeah youd have to find a pretty unmolested e36, and thats not going to happen without some luck.

Problem with convertibles?

Mooncraft/spoon = no more problem (there are other HT options too)

Wait till you have to replace the turbos in the S4... the alternator is cheap.

Why not FD rx7? 350Z?

Lexus IS300? Late BMW M Coupe?

Over a 5 year period, the 951 will cost you another $10K, while the RX8 will be much less spendy. And it has a real back seat. The only downside is the lack of HP.

I've considered the late M coupe but they fall into the too hard to find and parts are too much category. RX7 isn't really my thing and believe it or not a 350Z coupe is hard to find down here! There is only one for sale and it was a 2003 repo'd, in a collision, smoked in, had 90k miles, and they wanted 14k for it lol.

And the lexus isn't really my thing either...I really lust after the 951 (and the 968 and 996 for that matter) but I just can't afford to keep buying expensive german parts. I can do most all work for myself but freaking $1200 strut mounts and $200 sunroof seals just cannot go on.

My close friend has an RX8... Let me lay it down for you. He got his car 3 weeks before I got the 951. This was last November. So far, I've replaced my brakes, clutch slave cylinder, TPS and a CV joint. He's replaced a Clutch pedal, coil packs, spark plugs... And his car STILL isn't running right. The cat went out on both of our cars, but his is about 20 years NEWER.

Both of our cars show a little molestation from previous owners, but still... I've spent less overall in repairs than he has. He's already looking into another car. And all of the problems he's had, are problems that he's looked up on the rotary forums... And they are pretty common problems. Running rich, clutch pedals effing up, cats getting clogged, as well as the plugs going bad. He liked his FC more than his RX8.
