Default Installing Tow Hook

Has anyone else installed this Tow Hook?

http://www.rennenmetal.com/proddetail.asp?prod=1300

I went to install them today and where there are suppose to be bolts already on my car to use to install this I have rubber plugs. I emailed Dave at Rennenmetal and he said 85.5 and older cars have the bolts already in the holes where this attaches. He said the rubber was just covering the bolts. I pulled the plugs out and no bolts just empty hole in car. I have two 87's and both have rubber plugs in these holes.

Anyone else install these and did you have the bolts or the plugs?

My 951 had bolts. I'll check the 84 in the morning.

I am running that tow hook BTW.

My 968 had holes with plugs. A handfull of nuts & bolts, flat washers and lock washers from the hardware store took care of it.

I have seen both bolts and plugs in no obvious pattern in the 944's. Just get yourself some bolts, nuts, and washers and you will be good to go.

No, to the inside body panel. The other side of the bolt is inside the cubby.

There is a plate with the studs on it that came on the cars from the factory, and that's what the factory tie downs mounted to. Usually the dealers unbolted the tie downs and left the stud plate in place. Some have it some don't. If you don't have it then there were rubber plugs put in place, but many still do. I posted a picture of it a while back.

The early cars don't have the holes. Neither my son's 84 or my 83 do.

I have Rennline's tow hooks on my S2. Here are some pictures of the rear, complete bolt-on, over the bumper shock mount.

Doesn't protrude for shin bashing

Easy install, even the valance doesn't need to be removed.

For the front, I have their s/s folding tow hook which screws into the front bumper (for S2, and Turbo bodied 944's). They have other options too.
