Default Best Car Quote Ever!

Seriously, I read this and laughed for about 30 minutes straight. Oh, and coming from a guy who rents cars ALL the time (me), it's totally true:

"There's a lot of debate about what kind of car handles best. Some say a front-engined car; some say a rear-engined car. I say a rented car. nothing handles better than a rented car. You can go faster, turn corners sharper, and put the transmission into reverse while going forward at a higher rate of speed in a rented car than in any other kind. You can also park without looking, and you can use the trunk as an ice chest. Another thing about a rented car is that it's an all-terrain vehicle. Mud, snow, water, woods -- you can take a rented car anywhere. True, you can't always get it back -- but that's not your problem, is it?"

This is care of P.J O'Rourke's "Driving Like Crazy." I highly recommend you pick it up for other similarly insane stories about cars... =D

I always treat the rental car as I would my own car and return it in the same condition as when I got it. Maybe I've been missing out...

this reminds me of the late 60's hertz shelby GT-H cars. they were hopped up mustangs that you could rent from hertz (commonly used to go racing) and it was not uncommon for guys to rent the GTH, pull its engine and put it in their regular mustang and put the regular 289 or whatever back into the rental and hertz would be none the wiser

While I'm not really proud of this, I know you can drive a Pontiac Grand Am, in the rain, for extended periods with the rear wheels locked up. The face on the guy who runs up to your window, in a downpour, to tell you that 'your rear wheels are not turning' is priceless -when you reply, "I know".

I'm with you on this one. I even tell people to not slam the doors...are we missing something?

I fail to see how tearing up other people's property is "fun".
