School me on Bosch Fuel Pumps

I need to buy one for my '86. The vendors on eBay and the usual direct vendors (Pelican etc) show a dizzying array of Bosch numbers, that don't agree in many cases.
Also, the pump in the '86 is green, while the pump used in my '84 is blue. My '84 came with a green pump as spare and was described as a "924 pump". Is there any significance to the color? Pressure rating, etc?
It seems there are dozens of Bosch pumps that are externally identical, have very similar if not identical pressure/flow ratings; how critical is it to have "the" exact pump shown in PET?
Anyone have experience with the Walbro pumps? I've used their products on lots of Mustangs and such, they have a very good rep with the hot rod crowd.

i have a pump from a later car on my early and havent had any issues. my car had a green one originally but i put a blue one on it.
it is the same pump as the turbo cars too for all years. all 2.5 8v cars use the same pump

buy an 044 if you wanna build the car otherwise I belive stock 951 and 924s used the same pump. Just bought a takeoff from a wrecked s2 to put on the 86 turbo I just picked up.

most of them are blue- i believe green is early. The 044 doesnt fit without some modifications etc.... walboro pumps are good but these bosch seem to last forever and work fine. Get a good stock pump from www.Paragon-products.com or one of the other sponsors www.rennbay.com etc...

Thanks, Rennbay doesn't sell them, but Paragon had these notes (no other explanation):
"Note:
If your 924S,944,944T fuel pump is blue use 0.580.464.021
If your 924S,944,944T fuel pump is green, use 0.580.464.028 "
The mystery continues! So I searched eBay for the green pump; here's what I found on Arnnworks' fuel pump tester auction:
"(Bosch speed reduced pump with green paint color code # 0.580.464.028)"
Sounds like there is a difference, will do some more searching...
PS -- the Paragon replacement pump is black!
