Default Exhaust Identification Help....

Hi;

I recently installed a Dansk Stainless exhaust system on my 944S, mostly for sake of appearance. The exhaust on the S was less than two years old and I believe it was a modified non-S system. I spent a few hours on the internet trying to identify the removed system without any conclusive results. The plan is to try to sell it but I want to understand exactly what I am selling.

Appreciate any input. Thanks in advance!

Tim

I just spent literally 20 seconds, typed in Bischoff exhaust, hit search and got results. The first of which leads me to the conclusion, theyre their own company, but have apparently teamed up with Fabspeed at somepoint. The listing was for a 993 fabspeed exhaust using a bischoff cat. Id say its fair to assume you have the same setup in 944 guise

Hi Eastep,

I definitely googled Bischoff with the 944xx number but I was unable to find the specific 944 model. I searched the forums on Rennlist and my Haynes manual. My goal is to definitively determine if this is a base 944 exhaust system, modified to fit my S model.

Thanks,

Tim

what year did s2's begin? I thought 944 exhausts were all the same, with the turbo using a slightly larger diameter pipe?? In the pic it looks like its about 2.25in, so Id say its probably a base upgrade seeing how the stock is what 1.75-2in? 2.25 would be too small for an aftermarket turbo, but like you IDK, good luck on the quest post your findings. Im planning to make an aftermarket exhaust thread tomorrow where everyone can post vids/clips of all types of exhaust stock/custom/aftermarket

Thanks for the reply. The "S" model was only made in 87 and 88. The "S2" model first appeared in 1989 with the 2.7L engine. The reason I think my system was modified is that there are two welds in the pipe in front of the muffler. Had it been a standard "S" model exhaust, I would have expected a one piece pipe. However, you could be correct. Just looking for some confirmation before I throw it on Craigslist.

I'll watch for your exhaust thread tomorrow. Thanks again.

Looks like an aftermarket rear end welded to the intermediate muffler to me.

Good call, Eric. I inspected the muffler and there are no brand markings, just some nomenclature that is not specific to anything I can find on the internet.

Thanks,

Tim

That resonator (the one with the markings) appears to be stock (has the P in the triangle Porsche mark). Not sure if the S came with the resonator or not, I know the S2 did. Looks like some sort of aftermarket muffler. Perhaps the muffler was just replaced at some point.

Hi Darren,

According to the Automotion site, the 944S and S2 included a resonator (and use the same exhaust system) but the base 944 did not have a resonator (see pics).

I'm going to put this on Craigslist for $75 in case anyone in the Bay Area is interested. It cost $300 and was purchased in September of 2007.

Thanks for the responses.

Tim

S2 was exclusively a 3.0L 16v engine. the 2.7 was the base model 944 for 1989. they did share a block though.

base 944s had resonators (the systems you show are after the cats), euro versions had just resonator cans whereas north american models had a combination resonator/cat.

Good call...absolutely correct on the base 1989 944 being the 2.7L....my bad.

One question....will my removed system fit either the base 944, 944S or 944S2?

Thanks,

Tim
