944S2 oil change question
Just wondering if there are any tricks that I should do to remove the vertical oil filter. Also will I need any special tools for the job?
Oh ya, how many liters of oil does the S2 take? I can' seem to find my manual atm. :S
Thanks guys

Oh no not another oil question !!!! J/K
The only trick I know of is to take a small screwdriver or similar pointy device and pierce the top of the filter to let it drain a little better. I still stuff alot of paper towels around it and I still get it everywhere...
It takes 6 qts with a filter.

Good one sml. My oil question was pretty much answered.
I use a tool to remove/install oil filters I purchased at Canadian Tire. It looks flimsy being a strap attached to a square tube but it works great in the cramped area we have to get the filter in and out. You get the strap around the filter and use a 1/2 in ratchet to turn the square tube around. Works well.

I tried poking the oil filter and then letting the car sit for over 30 minutes to try to get everything out of there - I still got a ton of oil coming out of the filter so I think that is bogus. Theorhetically it should work - but YMMV.
Just make sure you stuff a bunch of rags down there as mentioned and you might want to turn the headlights on to get some stuff out of the way. I even thought about loosening up the power steering resevoir the next time just to get a little more room... Just turn with one hand and have a rag in the other and as soon as it comes free slip your hand with the rag under it and get it out of there pronto.

I used to do the following ..
lift the lights . it moves some stuff out of the way so you can work a bit quicker ...
after loosening it i would put a plastic grocery bag down over the hole thing .. when the filer falls off it falls into the bag with most of the oil, pull the bag out and tie it in a not ... done . Not pefrect but way better than what I did before

I do what theiceman does plus:
-put some kind of protection over the front of the car in case you drop something (I use a little cloth rug).
-I use rhino ramps
-autozone sells the steel cap-type filter wrench that fits the mahles (oem type B I think). It's thin walled so it doesn't need much space.
-car should be warmed up (hot oil - use a heavy glove when you remove the drain plug.
-new crush washer on the drain plug every time, and use a torque wrench. I use anti-seize.

I got the bloody thing off! I tell yah, that oil filter took a few years off my life :S what a bitch.
I bought that oil filter removal tool, what a waste of money! I ended up pinching the top of the oil filter with a massive set of plyers and turning it lose, lol.

Never mind all those # put in 6 quarts start her up & go by your dipstick add if needed.Minimum mark is (RED- lower) Maximum is ( WHITE -upper).You can drive the car with the oil between them two marks without hurting it.But I wouldn't recomended. I like to keep my oil on the top mark. You can't never never drive it with the oil below the Minimum mark.
