Back in college I used a Passport, and ultimately stopped using it because with the way I drive, I was far more likely to get pulled over for having the radar detector than actually speeding. And no, it's not because I drove the speed limit. I just chose to not stand out of the crowd...

My buddy at the time had a V1, and he was getting pulled over left and right, whereas I never had a problem with my Passport. Was it because my detector was better? Nope! I learned to pace someone in front of me, because radar detectors are worthless against "instant on" if you are the only one driving fast.

And here in Virginia, they like "instant on"...

Escorts ads are so lame, I believe their latest one shows that their detector was rated #1 by Forbes. LOL. Who ever said their was truth in advertising.

The V1 is the only way to go. I've had one for 3 years.

Does the V1 Jam radar? Say like for that "Instant on" radar will the V1 jam it or not?. The detector I have was in the car when I bought it but it looks like its from the 80's its built into the dash just under and to the left of the steering column. It beeps at everything and every now and then it actually warns me about on comming cops only after they have tagged me. Great detector anybody want it?

It was a review that gave 1st to the escort and 2nd to the v1. It said that the valentine had less sensitivity in the K and Ka bands. Everything I've found since then (including the Car & Driver review) contadicts it. I'm going with the v1...eventually.
I'll see if I can find it in my browser cache at work tomorrow.

The review that rated the Escort over the V1 was from a highly biased source. The Valentine site (admittedly another biased source) offers the explanation for this poor review. The author of this review evidently wanted a kickback from Valentine in the form of "consulting services", and wrote a poor review after his offer was declined.

Interesting fact: As I recall (memory is a bit fuzzy), I believe that Valentine actually worked for Escort for quite some time, when they were considered the best, and left them to start Valentine.

It's been a while since I researched detectors (like I said, 2.5 years), so some of my facts may be wrong, but the V1 has saved my bacon more than enough times to pay for itself.

Keep your eyes peeled, too.

Yeah several places that rate radar seem to have vested interest. They explain to you all the ways that the escort is better than the "overpriced" V1 and subtly route you to the other part of their website were they sell Escorts.
