You'll get a few different answers on this one.

Here's my take. I bought a V1 2.5 years ago. Prior to this I had more speeding tickets than I can remember, literally. My last pull of my driving record listed 5, if I recall.

My driving style has not changed significantly in that time, and I've acquired a faster car. I have not gotten a ticket, since purchasing the V1.

Oh, and my insurance rates have finally started dropping. ;-)

After a not-so-beneficial meeting with a cop last week, I'm thinking about getting a radar detector. What can you guys tell me about this model? Or any other good ones.
I'm just glad in AZ we get one 'free' ticket every two years (at the cost of a wasted Saturday morning and $115 class fee). My previous one was two and a half years ago.

I tell people this so often that y'all probably think I work for V-1, but seriously... it is WAY WAY better than anything else out there. I did the side by side comparison with the Escort, and sent the Escort packing in short order.

V-1 is the only one worth owning. I would drive without a radar detector beffore I would trust my luck with anything else.

Regards,

Jeez, after hearing about tickets and points and crap all you guys deal with I think we got it pretty easy here in Illinois.

I got pulled over doing 53 in a 30...it was a speed trap, it dropped from 50 to 30 for about 2 blocks and then back up to 45 and I didn't notice Anyways, the judge made me pay the minimum fine ($75), 1 month probabtion, and it's not on my record.

If you'd been doing 15 over on the freeway without a decent 'oops' excuse, you probably wouldn't have gotten the leniency.

I did a bit of research and the Valentine is considered one step below an Escort 8500. The Escort can detect more frequencies of radar, and is invisible to detector detectors (useful if you drive through VA or DC), but the Valentine has the front and rear detection. Also the 8500 is $299 vs. $399 for the Valentine. Tough choice.

GET A V1! Best one out there, period. Only deficits are the same ones any detector will have - not proof against instant on radar, will always give some false signals (which you become used to at the same spots each day), etc.

YM will not V on this! Al

I've had several differet kinds and they all worked fine. The important thing is that you learn their limitations and apply your knowledge of where speed traps will be.
